sorted byThe only other problem I've had was the passenger heated seat stopped working. They sent out a mobile mechanic who diagnosed faulty electronics and they replaced the entire seat.
I've had BMW's, Mercs, Porches, Jags etc and have never had such good service as from Tesla.
Its not a bad car but its not on a par with audi bmw merc imo, you are also pinned to their infotainment solution which does not play nice with phones in the way car play/android auto does.
My biggest gripe though is speedo/limiter, being set off to your left and small its hard to keep track of your speed. To deal with this you can set the limiter to chime when you exceed the limit +/- your choice of a few mph.
Sounds good in theory but mine keeps picking up the 20’s for side streets and thinking its for the main road. In the UK there are rarely 30 signs so it bongs at you a lot 🙃.
Also currently theres no parking sensor function as they dropped the ultrasonics before building a vision only solution.
Lastly their customer service experience has not been great, it feels like chatting to 17yr old frat boys that are like “dude that sucks”.
Delivery was due on the 24th then the 28th then the 31st, then come pick it up in manchester on the 28th then can you come get it from Portsmouth on the 30th (from Wakefield). Throughout it was presented as though i’d caused their shipping issues. Finally it turned up without notice on the 30th
- Claiming that vision can do everything and removing sensors in favor of this (radar, parking sensors and even rain sensors). What's worse is that they have removed the sensors before the vision-versions of the software are ready.
- Not implementing or removing features because they are "not relevant when everyone has FSD" such as a heads-up display (not featured) and the stalks (removed on the latest S/X and potentially removed on the next gen 3/Y) which are replaced with capacitive buttons...
- Clear focus on US and not GB: not even a hint of when FSD could reach anywhere that isn't the US and hardware matrix LED lights fitted with no evidence they are interested in writing the software to enable them
- No Apple CarPlay/Android Auto
- Phatom breaking issues when using simple adaptive cruise control
Oh, and Elon Musk is a bit if a tit, but what CEO isn't? I tihnk he has outlived his usefulness at Tesla now after getting them to this stage. (edited)
3 years on nothing has changed with FSD but the asking price, and nothing has changed on its outlook in the UK. Also, the fact that they are selling cars without parking sensors because Tesla Vision will take over and some undefined time in the future, just sucks. What makes it so frustrating is that the car itself is really good, fun to drive, practical, full of useful features and ever improving. There is a lot of good there, but Tesla are making themselves harder to like all the time.
From the official source and assuming this is classed as zero emissions vehicle: No (for this car), but Yes in general.
'Vehicles with a list price of more than £40,000You have to pay an extra £355 a year if you have a car or motorhome with a ‘list price’ (the published price before any discounts) of more than £40,000. You do not have to pay this if you have a zero emission vehicle.
You only have to pay this rate for 5 years (from the second time the vehicle is taxed).' (edited)
Juke and Qashqai drivers still rank pretty badly.
It's a decent deal for a Tesla, the pros and cons of which are well documented, thousands of times. Voted hot.
Here is a chap doing towing a large caravan with a high end EV, it's not his EV but he is surprised at the range test of using this EV for this purpose >
Now these are more extreme examples but are they? How do these problems get solved in the future? How will EVs be made to work for everyone as ICE does?
Anyway this may come across as trolling, I assure you it isn't. EVs are definitely useful for many people but currently they appear to be far from useful for a large % of the population and whilst prices are dropping they are out of the budget for many people. So how will these problems be solved? New battery tech, much faster charging? Will towing always halve your range, how does that compare to ICE? I think I know some of the answers, but that's why we discuss things. So people who love EVs and are using them, what do you think about videos like these? Sensationalist or realist? (edited)
The average cost of a car is £30-35k and that's plenty of EVs. People also have no problem leasing cars 100%+ of salary so why are EVs any different to the average cost of German cars people are obsessed with leasing?
2nd hand maybe the only choice by then.
Plus the likes of Shell & BP already own some of the electric charging stations so they will still make money either way.
But if you have solar you could run a EV for a lot less than todays fuel prices. (edited)
There's no way I'm buying an EV and taking on that financial suicide. It'll be leasing all day long.
The only people who should remotely consider getting one are those that get it through a company tax break. You need your head checking if you buy one any other way.
Also show me an equivalent EV car for less money too whilst you are looking.
Then when you have worked out that there aren't any, the running costs are considerably cheaper then you might, just might change your ill thought out mindset.
I and several other team members started looking into this seriously.
However, after much research and number crunching we decided that the long-term ownership costs and the so-called eco-credentials just did not stack up.
The cost of replacement batteries - even allowing for future price drops, long-term sustainability plus the non-eco materials and manufacturing process meant that the whole electrical car thing is a marketing thing - designed to make us all spend money..
A bit like every new version of iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or Pixel ...
I think hydrogen fuel will end up being the death of EV. I know that Shell recently pulled their trial stations due to lack of demand but there is still a lot of work going on behind the scenes for large commercial vehicles to be hydrogen powered. AS soon as demand increases for it to be profitable, we'll see hydrogren fuel stations everywhere and this will kick start the work for smaller consumer vehicles.
Tesla drivers will be modern day equivalent of those that bought Betamax videos or Laserdiscs. (edited)
In my head at 40k it needs to be AWD and model Y. Alas no T car is realistically available at that price. (edited)
oh wait :/
