I got one at this price last year and love it. One gear is fine. It’s the first bike I’ve had where the chain’s never come off! I use it every other day and recharge once a week.

I don't think that's any surprise its a simple electric system and simple drivetrain. Ideal for everyday use and low maintenance. The fact the motor system works separately to the drivetrain massively extends drivetrain life so it can often last 2-3x that of a conventional bike because it does a significant portion of the work of climbing hills. Hub motors definitely best for commuting although mid-drive definitely better for a off-road e-mountain bikes because of the greater torque typically and how power is scaled through the gears. Those aren't ideal for commuting though as the drivetrain typically wears much faster than conventional bicycles and mid-drive motors are much more complex and expensive to fix and prone to chains breaking. More of a performance option, more like an unreliable German executive car whereas hub motors are more like Toyota Corollas typically.

So with it being an E bike I'm presuming you don't have to pedal while the battery has charge in it? I'm new to e bikes.. Tia

With E-bikes you usually have assisted peddling up to around 18mph, so you still have to pedal but it takes a lot of the effort out of peddling. After 18mph the electric assist stops and it becomes powered only by the rider.

If you ride twice a year, about 1 mile or 2 miles round trip. Great bike.

It's a good basic simple ebike that should be reliable but its a low capacity battery and you really need to pedal as much as possible so the battery discharge rate is not ridiculously high and shorten's it life. The fact it's single speed means you won't be able to ghost pedal in a low gear with no effort and rely on the motor to do all the work.

£570 is still a great price and just needs the price amended. Someone has sadly expired the deal but they are still for sale as far as I can tell with a quick look.

any feedback on the quality of these now a few have been bought on this group?

i spoke to evans cycles but they didn't recommend them - suggesting the battery could become shorted in wet weather (you can see the wiring hole on the frame). however, i like the look of them and i'd prefer a cheaper e-bike which i can leave places...

I know this is a fairly old comment so apologies if not relevant to you anymore, but if you're looking for an ebike I don't recommend this (or Sports Direct in general, same would go for Evans Cycles since it's the same company)

I have this Muddyfox Electric Avenue bike and it developed a battery fault and Sports Direct, to put it short, don't care at all and it's taking a lot of effort to get them to do anything.

Good luck finding a bike if you are still looking for one! (edited)

This deal is back on, ordered a Large for 550 in white and it was delivered today. Paid for next day, but was delayed by 24 hours. No email confirmation or text from Evans Cycles or any delivery tracking code given but the courier kindly called and was able to organise family member to receive delivery.

I'd say with only one gear this might become an issue on steep hills, I've tried it on ours and you'll need the saddle up and be out of the saddle even then.

I'm a bit disappointed with the assist on hills, however, the bike did get me to the top with some effort, whereas normally I would get off and push at the first corner. I'm 11.5 stone. Tried other (200 pound more expensive) bikes and they have MUCH more torque, but I never felt I was getting any exercise ha ha.

The simplicity of the bike and it's relative weight (18kg) might count in its favour.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I've seen it reach the full £1100 price since I regretfully bought this.

I am having issues with the bike, primarily the battery only lasts no more than 2 hours when it used to last me a week. Not fun when it takes 6 hours to charge up and Sports Direct customer service doesn't care.

I hope it works out for you though, I will say going up hills is a breeze for me but for steep hills that only applies if the assist mode is on high. However, saying that, I also appear to have a fault there as I don't seem to be able to get the assist mode to maintain a speed anywhere past medium anymore.

    Good luck with the bike
