Looks like a decent discount. Is this bike any good for commuting?

Perfect for the commute. What very little you lose in speed you make up for in comfort and versatility.

FSA Crankset but to be fair it does give decent gear ratios. Nice find OP

Get the topstone 1 for that price?

Full GRX but it is the GRX400 which is bottom of their GRX range so not really something to crow about.
Considering the Bend R5 at GoOutdoors is £1440 - before their regular 15% discount code - and that has GRX800

Yes, but the frame will be inferior to the Topstone in build quality.

I thought you were getting 2 bikes for this price

My lad bought this before covid, he's been out on it twice. I keep telling him to fire an elec motor on it.

    I've voted up + ✅

In an ideal world, a Alloy frame bike with 2x10 speed Shimano would be around £1000
(but we are where we are with bike prices, and everything being 'inflated' at the moment).

I don't have any personal experience on the components... but the Topstone Alu is well considered as is Shimano GRX Hydraulic!

Slap on some slick 30/32cc tyres if you're mainly on the road and only occasionally on the rough stuff (I ride towpaths + light gravel on 28cc road tyres without too much problem!) and it looks like a great versatile bike with some upgrade potential

You mention Hydraulic Brakes in the title as if it's a good thing.......and yet it's not a mountain bike?

I have a Topstone 4 and it's a beast, this having the Shimano shifters it's probably better than what I have on the TS4. I'm a big Guy (18st 6'4) and the TS ally frame is excellent.

I suppose it's not a bad price. I know it's less gears overall, but at this price I would prefer 1x11 giving more upgrade options.

Hydraulic brakes is a big bonus.

...but what happened to Cannondale and their branding? it doesn't impact the bike on offer but it looks to me they lost their marbles, bring back the previous logos, colours and design. Current approach some how cheapens a brand, which should be offering top end aluminium bikes.

Obviously time machines don't exist but this was a fair bit cheaper at Evans not long ago.

Been looking to buy this one the last few months. Don’t really like the idea of the 2x10 gears, 1x11 sounds more sensible for gravel

2x10 Tiagra/Grx on my gravel bike - i use 1x10 and find it clunky. 1x11 would be a much better option for what I ride (yes i know ratio's etc come into it).

I completely agree.. I have a caad13 which has a lovely colourway and looks classy.. but since then the caadx and other models just look bland, they should make them stand out a bit more! Alloy bikes can be just as good as carbon and so should get the same love!

Hydraulic brakes are the worst thing I ever had on any of my bikes. Had so many issues and had to get them bled frequently
