From personal experience how long would the battery last? Average 8 hours use a day for work :/

Would probably last about 5 weeks before a charge is needed.

This is the model that everyone raves about right? (other than the 3 which is more expensive?). The side scroll of my original Mx Master from a few years has stopped working, so want to make sure I buy the right one, but don't know if there's lots of different versions.

I've got a MX Master 2 and I tried a MX Master 3 and I really can't get on with it. It's different in ways that are just worse, the wheel doesn't feel right and that's the major reason to get one.

How different is this to the 3s? Is it worth waiting for 3s price to come down or should I go for this?

I have both. The extra price for the 3s is worth it imo

Comes with a dongle, but you can also pair 3 devices simultaneously over bluetooth. There is a button on the bottom to switch devices. I use it for my work windows laptop and my personal mac

This can work fine over Bluetooth but also has a Logitech unifying dongle that can be used for faster connection rates if you have a spare USB socket. An MX Master keyboard can share the same dongle (MX Mechanical and Master 3S use Logi Bolt instead) (edited)

So I can use this mouse with the same USB receiver as the Mx master keyboard, but can't use the 3s mouse?

Sensor upgrade and possibly some battery improvements. Its the same shape as the original MX Master.

Does the scroll wheel click, like little notches as you scroll, or does it just scroll smoothly. I was told by a friend that there are no notches as you scroll and that would mean it's of no use to me. Is this true?
    highdon's avatar
    highdon
There are two modes - tactile and free scrolling. The button underneath the scroll is used to switch between them. It also has a setting to switch smoothly between the two when you use more force which is really handy for scrolling documents. You can adjust the sensitivity of this in the settings as well.

It sounds like your friend didn't read the manual

Any opinions on this versus the Anywhere 2S? This is a tenner more but the other has more of a saving with a higher RRP..

    ozk
I have both and love them both.
If you hit the road occasionally get the anywhere. it’s great.
If it will remain next to a desktop or in the house the extra tenner is worth it.

    bloody good price

bought the MX Master 3s used like new for 68 from amazon warehouse today... now it has to compete with the 2s at 28 cheaper... I guess we'll see if it's actually worth the extra (edited)

Hot - got the MX 3S recently (old MX Master / 1st gen stopped working), this is nearly 2.5x cheaper. Used a few MX Performance before that.

Can't get used to MX 3S's quiet clicks, nor its dampened feel (feels weird); its side scrolling (horizontal) positioning also seems off. Might grab this whilst the deal is on. Shame to loose USB-C but at least the click should feel more natural/rewarding on this 2S.

A tip with these is to get a good mouse mat, and get it from where there is 2Y warranty at least (sooner or later my MX units have all stopped working in the past - it's fine - because the experience from using the scrolling wheel is superlative). (edited)

I jumped on this. Seems the only real difference between this and mx3 is the usb C, which isn’t a big deal since I’ll hardly be charging it and my usb cable has a micro usb attachment, so not really an inconvenience.

Is switching between devices easy? (edited)

How does this compare to the original MX Master?
I've had my original MX Master for many years now and it's the only mouse that doesn't cause intolerable wrist pain!

Picked one of these up the last time it was on offer and I cannot fault it. We now have two x 2s and one x 3s. The oldest 2s lives in my work bag for those days when I head to the office as working without seems odd now. The other two sit at our home office desks and I’ve even convinced my very sceptical wife to use and now she too is sold. I originally bought in early lockdown when I had RSI issues; this mouse plus a new mouse mat and keyboard fixed RSI and I’ve never looked back. TLDR Great investment and well worth it.

As ever, I'll throw this out there:
    * Flow is garbage.
    * The input switching is on the bottom and doesn't sync to the keyboard input switcher, at all.

I have to press the button under my MX3 about 2 dozen times or more per day; when that goes I'm going to be annoyed.
    Czubaka's avatar
    Czubaka
Isn't this because the Mx3 uses Logi Bolt and keyboard (I'm assuming you have Mx keys) uses Unifying receiver?

Fantastic mouse - wouldn't go back to anything else. The Master 3 only real benefit is the USB-C, but really not worth the price. This represents great value for money IMO

Why does my main scroll so loose and with the smallest amount of force keep spinning like a loose wheel with no friction? Is this normal?

That's annoying - I got this mouse two years ago for £32.99, so I don't think the deal price here was in error; maybe you just got unlucky with stock
