Paid £850 for one of these 2 weeks ago

Absolutely incredible monitor, colours are just sublime, and the ultrawide format is perfect for gaming. Although some games will require mods/tweaking of files to run at 3440x1440 resolution, even newer titles like Elden Ring.

Worth watching the Hardware Unboxed video on this, especially if you have an AMD graphics card. HDR is completely washed out and doesn't go brighter than around 400nits on Radeon GPUs, so best going with the Alienware AW3423DWF if you have one. (edited)

I bought this few months back on release and returned due to screen defect, I could have placed new order and got new one in 2-3 days whilst the return took over 2 weeks after they confirmed they got it and in the end they gave me a refund.

The Smart TV OS is terrible, it's boxed in the middle so the apps aren't ultra wide and rather pointless. Same for remote, there is no input switching button(rofl) maybe they added some new short cut in an update now? idk. Switching between Mac and Desktop was annoying having to go through the laggy smart menu.

Beautiful panel, in the end I settled for Alienware which worked out cheaper and have no issues and more clear warranty on burn in. (edited)

    It’s a shame the Alienware doesn’t have USB-C, that’s a draw for me.

Good price but no burn in warranty unfortunately.

For anyone on the fence I'd buy this now and think about it after before it goes out of stock.

Amazing deal which I would jump on in a new york minute if I didn't already have a relatively new but similar (and worse) monitor.
  5. amazing1234232323's avatar
Mine has arrived and plugged in. So far so good. In terms of the Windows HRD settings, would you guys bother having it on?
    PhoenixWright's avatar
For desktop use HDR is pointless. Just enable it when playing HDR games and then disable it again afterwards (Win key + Alt + B).

came from a 27 inch 4k monitor and upgraded to this a few weeks ago, returned it after 2 days. the step down in resolution coming from 4k was degraded for me to be ok with. ended up with a lg 5k2k. but damn, this deal is insane for someone whos ok with 1440p ultrawide. loved the colours on the monitor especially for gaming and youtube.
    GFunk's avatar
Thanks for telling me this. I was wondering if I made the right decision going for a 42C2. Now I think I have.

So, everyone keeps mentioning warrenty but hasn't someone already confirmed they provide burn in warrenty on this monitor?

Also - someone who's done the research - are there many issues with this monitor? Seems some are having bad experiences.

Lastly, question from me. For gaming - as it's not a 4k monitor, is the awkward resolutiona problem? Do most games support it?
    WohnJick's avatar
For PC gamers it’s fine. For console gamers not so much, although the PS5 can stretch to the resolution, it’s not actually a supported resolution.

Haven’t seen bad reports, the monitor has strange I/O - mini hdmi and Mini DisplayPort. The usb-c port is limited to 120hz.

As for the burn-in. Samsung does not cover it over 12 months (as mentioned above), however some reps from customer services states they do up to 3 years like their Dell/MSI panel models. So take that with a tablespoon of salt. (edited)

I've ordered this and have an ex-display Oddesy G7 (32" 240hz) that is a pretty meh monitor because of the shortcomings that Samsung seem to have. For example, the inputs seem to just fall asleep and not respond on waking so I have to unplug the power and plug it back in. There is quite a lot of bleed, the image quality is pretty poor compared to my LG IPS 27" that cost about 1/3 of the retail price. The motion isn't actually as smooth as you'd expect. I also have a c14 LG OLED and everything works as well as of course being an OLED.

If I have ANY issues at all I'll return it.

Anyone know if you need to include a power cable if trading in a non working monitor?
    dan.gadgets's avatar
Yes you do, rep told me this
  15. cpadams's avatar
With the trade in do they collect when they drop off the screen or do you do separately? Do they send the labels to you?
    RiceeChrispies's avatar

I’ve also been told no packaging is required, all handled by courier.
  16. RiceeChrispies's avatar
    Interesting, scheduled delivery for tomorrow.

Weird though because it said it was going to be delivered by DPD, wonder if the delay is because I chose trade-in so required a different courier?

Judging by the additional options, it’s being delivered by a home appliance delivery company.

I received the same message. I'm also trading in and it appears that they're collecting at the same time. It definitely makes it easier to get it done in one go.

"Good news, your delivery has been booked. We will send another message the day before with a window for your collection."

Loving this monitor so far. It plays so well with the PS5. I had the Alienware for 3 months and this beats it hands down for gaming. The input lag is imperceptible, on the DW it was awful. Picture is much more punchier and the white balance is perfect. The only issue I have so far, and it's probably to do with the hdmi cable I have, but I can't enable 1440p and VRR on the PS5 - any one else able to try this? As a bonus my samsung tv remote works with the monitor, and that remote has an input source button.

Is there any risk in leaving the screen protector on? It makes it glossy and I actually like it better.
    Kebabish's avatar
doesnt the monitor have a glossy coating anyway?
  18. PhoenixWright's avatar
When I had the Alienware DW it was nice to try out OLED for the first time, but there were a number of things I didn't like about it, such as; the large stand, bulky build, creaky plastic, popping noises, loud fan, flimsy joystick, high input lag, screen scratches (unacceptable), and port placement. After 3 replacement screens that all had scratches, I gave up and got a refund.

The G8 rectifies all the flaws of the Dell and is such a good deal. There's nothing better than this monitor right now, and despite some annoyances with the mini/micro ports, it ticks every other box. It's a real premium monitor and exactly what I'd expect to see in the 21st century.
  19. PhoenixWright's avatar
    Update!

4k downscaling works when game mode is turned off and only at 60fps! That's useless as none off the gaming features are available.
    Jonathon_James's avatar
Yikes, starting to not feel so bad about missing out now

I just bought the Dell OLED 34 inch ultrawide monitor for 789 with student discount...should I get this instead?
    Flyer01's avatar
Yes, then change your mind when another deal comes out in a few days, then again when another a few days later. In 50 years I have never once returned anything just because it became available elsewhere cheaper after I took the responsibility to commit to a purchase at a price I agreed with. I wonder how you would feel if you had to pay the extra when a retailer increases their prices a few days after you bought an item. I feel sorry for retailers having to deal with the entitled buyers of today, but more importantly, I feel embarrassed at the unnecessary damage we are doing to our planet with moving billions of items around because folk can't show maturity and responsibility, so more tyres get turned to dust, and toxic fumes get into our air. I fully understand if an item arrives broken and needs to be exchanged but come on.

Bought this Tuesday, returning the monitor for full refund and reordered at this new price. Mental they can't just refund the difference.

Still a valid deal, needs unexpiring.

For those concerned about burn-in, unlike other countries - Samsung UK warranty is valid for three years and covers burn-in. Confirmed on live chat just now.

Personally I'd still be very weary about getting the samsung monitor as other people have reported they were told that burn in isn't covered by a CS rep. If it doesn't say burn in is covered on the website I wouldn't buy, which is why I got the Dell OLED monitor which has the same panel as this one and it's £789 with student discount, also Dell covers burn in for 3 years.
  25. cascadde's avatar
I would be quite wary of the burn-In risk (which seems to affect QD-OLED more than W-OLED panels according to recent RTINGS test) and Samsung not covering it under warranty. Potential headache for an otherwise good monitor. (edited)
    PS5's avatar
Exactly what I was going to mention.... my 144hz MSI 34" ultrawide is only VA and even that has taskbar burn in after 2 years
QD-OLED is allegedly going to have the same problem.
  26. PhoenixWright's avatar
Ended up ordering a micro hdmi 2.1 cable from Amazon.de (worked out cheaper than Amazon uk and they only had 1.5m available).

I think the issues with running 1440p/120hz/VRR all at once on the PS5 are related to my existing HDMI 2.0 cable. Basically what's happening is that every few seconds the monitor loses the input signal and displays a black screen, before showing a signal again. I've also seen a whole row of artifacts along the bottom of the screen. I've only had this problem at 1440p - 1080/120hz/VRR works fine.

I'm pretty sure the HDMI cable is the issue. I was going to get a dongle, but I've read that they are poor quality and prone to breaking or causing signal issues. Samsung should really have provided a micro HDMI 2.1 cable in the box - really annoying.
    JS1122's avatar
Did you get an actual micro hdmi to hdmi converter or was it a converter like this? amazon.co.uk/Two…h=1

Expensive but deal, wish the 240hz 2k from LG also down to this price
    LiamN's avatar
With the monitor trade in its comfortably the cheapest QD-OLED monitor, and when you factor in that this is the best of all of them it's an absolute steal
  28. Pyro88's avatar
Great price if you have an old monitor to trade in. Although, I would probably go with the Dell AW3423DWF as it looks to have the better warranty that covers burn in.

Was going to order when I got home from work, but as the deal has been posted now, I whacked in my order! With the trade in offer on top it's an excellent price. Admittedly, the mini ports suck but can live with them if everything else is spot on.

Not common on QD OLED from what I can see. My release day Dell hasn't had any.
  32. SecretOfMonkeyIsland's avatar
Great price .... but its Samsung, their monitors are always plagued with issues. Also being QD-OLED does it have the 3 year burn in warranty Dell offers written down on their website as proof, if so great (That sweetens the deal, if not then forget it).
  33. PhoenixWright's avatar
The monitor is out of stock now and I'd be surprised if it dropped this low again.

Mine should be here about 2PM. Did he box it up or just whack a label on it?
  35. hihdgiisvjdb's avatar
Got mine this morning and soon found out mini and micro hdmi are not the same so waiting for another adapter from amazon to arrive later today.

Menu is abit clunky and slow but as a single screen in the bedroom that does both tv and movie duties mostly and work less so it's better than a normal monitor with no remote so can live with it.

The core sync lighting seems pretty crap so just set it to a solid colour for abit of ambiant lighting.

Build quality is really nice and feels like a very premium product.

The picture quality is great of course and sound is fine for the bedroom or office use.

Overall Its not perfect but for the price paid I'm more than happy with it.

Anyone know of there is some way to bring up apps that are maybe running in the back ground to switch between them or close them? (edited)
    JS1122's avatar
