guitarguitar are currently doing the PRS SE Custom 24 Faded Blue Burst in the sale for £599.
Great guitars for the money. Might help someone who is thinking of buying a new guitar.

At A Glance:
The PRS SE Custom 24 Faded Blue Burst delivers quality and affordability in a concise package. Drawing heavily from its big brother's concept, the SE version of the Custom 24 still retains its ability to deliver high performance and reliability. The SE range has brought a durable workhorse of an instrument to stages across the world.

This model showcases a laminate flame top accented by the Faded Blue Burst finish. The thick maple cap under the veneer gives you the same sonic benefits whilst retaining its affordable nature. Proudly wearing its bird inlays, The SE Custom 24 has had to earn the right to be branded by Paul Reed Smith. Not sacrificing versatility, the 85/15 S pickups are a new, improved version of the pickups that helped get PRS of the starting line. Further adding to the adaptability of the 85/15 S pickups is their ability to be split.

Overall, the SE Custom 24 is a serious piece of equipment that is made to be played.

Features We Love:
85/15 S Pickups
The first two numbers of the pickups name indicate the year that the original pickup came out. The last two digits denote what year that pickup design was reissued with modern enhancements. The pickups mounted in this guitar are based on the pickups loaded in the first PRS guitars. The earlier pickups' tolerance variations have been shrunk to unnoticeable differences in sonic output by utilising new computer programmable machinery. PRS aim to keep improving their innovations as new technology develops.

Wide Thin Neck
The neck is where most of the playability of the guitar is decided. PRS have thought meticulously about the shape and feel of the necks they offer. This guitar sports a Wide Thin neck. This neck gives you a thin profile with a wide fretboard, a combination championed by fast players. The maple neck is given a gloss finish and is capped with a rosewood fretboard.

Coil Split
The push/pull coil split is located within the tone control. The added function allows you to split both humbuckers resulting in six different tonal possibilities. If you are looking for an instrument that sounds good in almost any musical scenario, this wiring mod should be a welcome sight. Not compromising tone, the pickups have been crafted for optimum sound in both standard and split positions.

Highlights:
Coil splittable 85/15 S pickups for versatile tonal output
Thick maple cap with flame maple veneer gives you the sonic and visual benefits at a more affordable price.
PRS designed hardware makes for a reliable instrument.

For anyone on the fence, just get it. I have the American big brother of this that's over 4 grand, and honestly in a blind test you can barely tell the difference. These are brilliant things.

As good as you will get for this price, I'd get it tuned professionally at a shop or by a local teacher...costs around £40-£60

Spend more and take any guitar to a luthier. Guitar shops and 'techs' know nothing about working with wood and will often botch it. A reputable luthier will transform even a basic instrument to something of a professional standard.

    I have two recommendations:

    RLP Guitars Liverpool
    LA Guitars in North London

    Both fantastic.

Thanks for the recommendations @FlyFly99 and @fender62 I’m going to Leeds tomorrow and plan on going to the music stores whilst there. I’ve been bitten by the bug! I also want a second Martin! I better get saving (edited)

I couldn't recommend one of these, you're paying an awful lot for a mass-produced Asian guitar. And FWIW I think these look foul in real life, you can really tell that it's a veneer rather than a top. Looks like wallpaper. I'll stick to my USA-made PRS thanks, a completely different beast.

What would be a better guitar for the money in your opinion for build quality / specs / looks?

I bought this at £750 so for this price it's certainly worth it. It's a great guitar and looks beautiful. Also, the gig bag is great quality too which is nice to have.

So, I bought one of these ages back, maybe 10-12 years ago, mainly because I loved the prs custom 24 and wanted it so bad but couldn't afford the 3k price tag. Can't remember exactly how much I paid but it was around £250-£300 brand new. But then I got it, and I played it, and it sounded... boring. Just dull. No excitement to it. It wasn't just me, ithers agreed. So I sold it.

BUT... I still love the prs guitars and would love to own one, so genuine question - did something change in the manufacturing process that means these sound more like the originals nowadays? Or could I maybe have had a duff before?

I've got the same dilemma - half tempted to get the Standard 24 for £429 and throw in a set of Fishman active pickups, would work out about the same. Would not be as pretty though (edited)

I’m about 5 months into learning to play the guitar and I’m so tempted by the PRS Silver Sky SE…they’ve got some offers on at the mo and I’m trying to resist! I want to eventually get a Fender Strat but I want to get it as a pressie to myself when I’m much improved

I’ve had a few Strats and I currently have a Silver Sky SE. The Silver Sky is a much better guitar than the Mexican Strats and it’s as good as a couple of USA Strats I have played and owned. £599 is a great price for thr SE Silver Sky. Amazing value for money.

these are heavy guitars compared to strat types, and the necks imho are to wide for me, reminds me of an sg or less paul
sort of, i used to have a charvel 475 and found the neck to wide for me, like the prs, thats why i like ibanez and strats.
but thats me, go and try a few prs's out, we are all different, this may be the guitar of your dreams. (edited)
