    Are tgv not normally expensive?

A lot cheaper than most UK trains. And plenty of the older, but still super fast trains, on new budget services.

I really wish UK trains where more affordable. This looks a really nice offer.

And modern. The UK rail infrastructure is a total mess. Decades of under investment.

UK Trains look more modern these days, but they are inferior to the European highspeed trains. (edited)

£25 can probably get me a single from Manchester to Stoke .

I think most would take Stoke over Paris or Geneva any day

Its around £32 from Manchester to London if booked in advance. Not much difference really.

Some of the services such as health, education and public transportation never be privatised because the public won’t have another option than the service. If a TGV can go from Paris to Zurich cheaper than a regular train that goes from London to Brighton, this means that we are spending too much for less service.

Usually these services are pretty expensive.

Italy and Spain have competition on their high speed routes and are super cheap.

But they had lots of government investment to build a high speed network.

It's not about public or private it's about a government willing to invest properly not run the system down.

never happening. The day we get free train travel in the UK is the day the country reaches the 21st Century. Till then rail travel is a luxury here.

On an inferior train at slow speeds, which is standard on UK railways, but I suppose if you've only ever known UK standards of public transport, you might think they are 'good'.

This is a fab deal! Having lived in Bern and Zurich for a while, this would be the cheapest and scenic transport there for a visit.

Cheaper than London-Birmingham, and there is a good chance you will be standing for 2 hours because of no free seat.

Train in the UK for work I get but would never take a train in my free time. They just take the p*ss in this country when it comes to fares
