We need a knife fight between this and the X8 until either is sub-£200. Bought the 1tb of the X8 and was really impressed but this gets great write ups too. No more poxy USB sticks or SD cards. The future is now.

I don't think a 10Gbps interface is fast enough for a 4TB drive, you would want a 20Gbps/40Gbps connection if you're moving a lot of jumbo-sized files. Many folks are now making their own external drives by choosing a fast caddy and plopping in their own NVMe M2 drives.

I guess it depends on what USB ports you have on your PC, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 or Thunderbolt are becoming more common now . . .

I think it's funny to label this rugged drive as shock resistant when you can already throw a 2.5" SSD at a wall and it will be fine. But this is waterproof too so that's good.

Yeah I was going to say, a normal SSD already has no moving parts and is a little board totally encased in metal so it's already really shockproof. Just maybe less dentproof and not waterproof (edited)

Can anyone suggest going with this or buying enclosers separately? I am leaning towards external enclosers as they can be upgraded to 40gbps later on when the usb4 enclosers get a bit cheaper.

I've been playing around with external NVMe and from what I can see you get slightly better tech if you DIY. I agree on the 40Gbps enclosers are pricey at around £130 inc lol.

I've just ordered the 20Gbps ORICO-M223C3-G4 as my motherboard has a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 port. These faster units seem larger/beefier as I expect they need better cooling to keep the NVMe chips within spec when reading/writing twice as fast as the mainstream 10Gbps units.
50047365-zp5Yn.jpgWith regard to size, I think 2TB drive capacity is the play right now while 4TB is getting cheaper all the time. It's nice to have a wodge of free space but it seems the prices keep dropping so having too much extra TB doesn't look like a good investment unless you can actually benefit from 4TB right now. Hope this helps. (edited)
