Can I just buy this or do I need another piece of hardware to make it work?

You need two additional things for this to work:
    * The Hue bridge (if you already have Hue lights you probably have this)
    * A power adaptor (if you have the non-extension light bar, they come with a power adaptor with spare slots)

Will this allow me to use 3 of these. Or was this simply if you had bought one light to make it two?

50098248-vSMkU.jpg50098248-XeoTf.jpgThe power plug supports up to 3 devices, they all act independently (you can buy clone power plugs on amazon)

you can program all lights in a room or a selection of lights a single colour or selection of colours, that 'colour' can be assigned to a hue switch (edited)

Really want these to extend my ambilight TV, however no one seems to know whether the TV itself acts as a bridge. Meaning I won't need to purchase the separate hue bridge.

I use mine to do exactly that. You just need a bridge. My TV is ambilight + hue and works well with two of these set as extensions. You even select where they are in relation to the tv to replicate the colours better. Very smart integration, works seamlessly. Can even control them with your tv remote!

This thread reflects pretty accurately how much of a confusing mess the Hue product line is.

I have the Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip and a Hue Sync box. Is this all I need to get light underneath my TV, or is it another of their products where it’s just an add-on to something specific?

A Hue hub and a smart andriod or apple tablet/phone to run the Hue App

I have a left over plug from a Hue Lightstrip, but am away from home just now… Would this Play bar plug into the light strip plug and work independently?

No, pretty certain its a different socket... actually just checked, the socket looks the same, although can't tell if the power is different, might work. Reddit might be a good place for confirmation. (edited)

Will this work with hue bridge v1? I have the earliest version of the hue lights. (edited)

Can't see why not, looking at comparisons, only mentions Homekit support in 2.0, and compatibility with some devices (Hue Sync?), as this is pretty much a bog standard light, I can't see why it wouldn't work.

Hi will this work with the Hue Gradient PC lightstrip with Hue Bridge?

Base kit with official plug shows as the same RRP at £64.99 in drop down menu? So what is the actual RRP of this? They can't be the same?

This is a good price, if you have the triple socket already, one comes with the HDMI sync box.
Does anyone know if this reacts to the left/right/top colour of the TV, as opposed to just one colour?
    MrPisch's avatar
    MrPisch
dont you tell the sync box the postion of the lights and it changes them accordingly ?
