Yale Quartus Universal Inline Espag Window Handle
The Quartus universal window handle is a elegant and stylish handle which boasts a high quality and ergonomic design. It is made by Yale, a leading manufacturer in window and door hardware. This handle is suitable for all window espag and shoot bolt mechanisms.

Information
  • Universal handle fits both left and right hand openings
  • Secure handle (can not be flicked open)
  • 43mm screw hole centres
  • Child safe handle, requires button press
  • Comes with 2 fixing screws per handle
  • Comes with 1 key per handle
  • Comes with 1 screw cover cap per handle

Dimensions
  • Screw Hole Centres: 43mm
  • Spindle Length: 10, 15, 20, 30 & 40mm
  • Spindle Width: 7mm Square

Measuring your handle
Screw Hole Fixing Centres:
Most espag handles are made to industry standards with 43mm screw hole centres, therefore it really doesn't matter if you choose a style that's different to your existing handle, as long as the handle centres measure 43mm these handles will fit.

Handing:
These handles are of the inline type (Non-handed), therefore they will replace both left and right hand handles.

Spindle Length:
Remove the two screws fixing the handle to the window and measure from the base of the handle to the tip of the spindle.

Spindle width:
Although almost all espag spindle widths measure 7mm square, its worth checking before ordering as some unusual 8mm variations have been known, although these are mostly on timber windows.

I bought 6 replacements with the 10mm length shaft (saves cutting to size with hacksaw) but here is the problem i had the product is fine works well but removing some of the old handles was impossible due to the shafts rusting in the gearbox of the frame and no matter how much pulling and wd40 could not be removed. So here are my tips.
    1. make sure you can remove the ones you want to replace.
2 Check the length of the shaft required.
    3. Most shafts on PVC are 7mm which these are but some in older wooden frames may be 8mm and these would not then fit. A vernier is best for this measurement.
The service and delivery was quick within 2 days .

If your handles are really stuck in and you want to replace them then saw the handle off and use a small drill piece to drill out the shaft. Before you put your new one in use a grease gun to get as much grease as you can into the mechanism so it works freely.

You take the old one out (2 screws one of which is normally hidden under a stick on cover that needs prizing off ) Then measure the length of the shaft

Anyone know if you can get handles that fit just like these but the handles don't stick out so much so they don't get in the way of blinds?

You can get either slimline or low profile one

I have recently fitted over 30 of these Yale handles in my house (from this seller). They are great. Cheaper to buy 10 at a time rather than singularly.
On 3 of the old handles the mechanism had died so you couldn’t push in the button to open the handle (so couldn’t get to 2nd screw to remove it). In case anyone else has this prob the fix was easy. Using a pad saw I was able to put the blade into the handle and literally saw through the lug. Once done old handle could be opened and replaced. This worked for me, put a stanley blade behind the handle and it will bypass the lock and handle and push open.

I bought these same handles for £2.50 each from Truly PVC and they're the same price regardless of spindle size unlike this Amazon seller. Yes you have to pay shipping (minimum £4) but if you're buying 12 or more the cost is mostly negated.

Is it hard to install, can't tell by the second pic...can barely change a light bulb myself

In this case you should ask a child to help you with this endeavour. They will be able to get a video and guide on the TickingTok which should ease the process.

Nice deal, I have an assortment of styled handles fitted so I might as well change them to these matching Yale handles

There are some really helpful comments in this thread. I really appreciate it as I bought a new handle recently but I'm unsure how to fit it or remove the old one completely which had become loose. I really appreciate the posts!

Did you manage it? First thing is to get at the screws on the existing handle. There will likely be a cover and using a very fine screwdriver this can be prised off. If a fine one doesn’t work go for something thicker and give it a jab. Once you can remove the screws it’s plain sailing.
One tip open the handle enough to access the screws and not so much that the window opens.
Also make sure you note which way the handle points before you put the new one on. You will need to open up the new one to match the openness of the one you just removed (so the spindle is at the right rotation).
It really is easy once you give it a go.

Note changing the handle will often not fix windows that don’t open if the old handle would turn. If the handle turns it is likely a fault with the mech on the window itself. (Unless the spindle is so worn that it is unable to rotate the mech).
Hope that helps. Plenty of YouTube vids on the topic. I had never needed to do it until a few weeks ago. But it was easy once I tried.

I bought a 40mm one a while back and had to cut about 5mm off the end which was a nightmare. If I get the short 30mm would that then be too short?

Just use the existing spindal. It should pull out easily enough with some pliers

I buy era everywhere 10 pack handles works out £3.50 a handle and you get multiple shaft lengths and snap off screw lengths.

but if you need to chop down a shaft I use a battery angle grinder with a thin cutting blade, why use a hacksaw?
    hero9989's avatar
Last time I had some that were too long (didn't have an angle grinder) I put the shaft into a drill and held a hacksaw up to it!

Good price I've just finished replacing all my window locks in my conservatory, went for chrome ones. I cut the bar using my dremmel, difficult to cut with a hacksaw. Also measure the screws. Mine had to be cut as well as the bar (edited)

The same one sold by Jewson about a year ago at £1 from something like £17.

They are so ugly and no style at all that I would not buy at 10p
    erroll's avatar
What would your suggestion/preference be then?

Thanks OP. Having a look at this also led to me finding a replacement for a duff door handle

Is there a way to fix a wobble handle as in very loose, the two screws are tight, just the handle is very loose
    adm9147's avatar
I had the same issue and just replaced the handle with one of these. Cheap and easy to do
  28. cityniya's avatar
Stupid question but will these all have a universal key if I buy 13 of them
    CatsWithThumbs's avatar
I would say yes; I have bought several yale handles from different sources, even slightly different styles, and all use the same key
  29. cristoff's avatar
Thanks op. I didn’t know these were so easily replaced. We’ve got one wobbly handle out of 12 so this will get us in the good books! (edited)

Does anyone know what size screw you get with these?

Thinking of replacing loose handles. Wonder what the chance is of reusing the old barrels so the key stays the same for all windows.
