Blurb:

Fyne Audio F301 Bookshelf Speakers - WalnutThis product comes with a warranty.

Perfect for smaller listening rooms, the F301 is a compact, stand-mount or bookshelf loudspeaker offering outstanding flexibility and class leading performance.

As a front stereo pair, the F301 excels at delivering dynamic bass and the musical articulation of more expensive designs. Its high current handling is equally at home in home theatre systems where the F301’s easy to drive nature and deep bass punch are compatible with a wide range of AV amplifiers and receivers.

Cabinet
A well-constructed cabinet is the starting point for any high-performance loudspeaker. Exceptional rigidity is provided on all F300 models through a combination of MDF panels which are cross-braced internally. Additional stiffness is achieved by coupling the low frequency driver’s magnet to the cabinet bracing using a resonant-absorbing mastic. Widening the footprint on the floor standing models, using a plinth with floor coupling spikes, provides stability for tight bass and accurate stereo imaging.

Crossover
Optimal performance of each of the F300 models is assured by using high quality precision components within the crossover, including low loss LF laminated core inductor and HF polypropylene capacitors. Although the designs are computer optimised, fine-tuning is always undertaken through critical auditioning. The gold-plated speaker terminals ensure a clean signal path and the top of the range F303 has bi-wire terminals fitted to further enhance performance.

Driver Technology
Fyne Audio aims to provide best in class performance at all price levels and the careful component selection for the F300 drivers helps to meet this goal.

Utilising a multifibre paper cone on the bass / midrange drivers delivers a natural sounding midrange and clean transient behaviour. Fitted to the centre of the driver is a phase plug which provides smooth midrange roll-off characteristics. FyneFluteTM technology, used on the driver’s roll rubber surround, provides a non-homogeneous interface which very effectively terminates cone energy.

Tweeter
The tweeter combines a powerful Neodymium magnet system with a 25mm Polyester dome producing crisp and controlled high frequency detail. Integrated within the protective mesh cover is a phase loss compensator which delays the output from specific areas of the dome to give a smooth and extended response.

We May Be A New Name In Audio But...
When you invest in a pair of FYNE AUDIO loudspeakers, you’ll be pleased to know that the development of each product has been undertaken by an enthusiastic and experienced team who have been in the loudspeaker business for very many years. At every level of the design process, be it acoustic know-how, mechanical engineering, choice of materials or manufacturing expertise, our loudspeakers have been tuned to offer best in class performance.

I bought some Edifier R2000DB speakers off the bay recently for £90 brand new just to dip my toe in the world of budget Hi-fi. Just wondering how these would compare, granted mine are active Vs these needing an amp.

Ok so separates are always going to sound better but if you bought these speakers & an amplifier you would probably not have Bluetooth or a remote. Be sure what you really want from your system.
If you are listening through a wired connection to your sound source then it's not a problem.
Once you have changed to a separates system then you can upgrade each part of the system separately as you can afford it. Speakers will sound better on stands, 'bookshelf' speakers that are designed to work on shelves rarely work well on shelves as all speakers need some space around them for them to work properly.
Whatever you do welcome to the world of Hi-Fi.

I think these are fine (fyne?) but they lack the signature concentric tweeter woofer arrangement that is the defining factor of this brand .

I’ve tried lots of speakers over the years . The biggest factor in how speakers sound is your room and the placement.

How much would I have to spend on an amplifier for these? Will just having these 2 with the amplifier be enough for a complete audio system or do you ideally need 5 of them to make it a 5.1 system? I know nothing of audio systems so sorry if these are too basic questions.

    > How much would I have to spend on an amplifier for these?

anything from say £50 to £5000

    > Will just having these 2 with the amplifier be enough for a complete audio system

No, you also need a source. i.e. cd player , PC, tuner, TV etc.

    > or do you ideally need 5 of them to make it a 5.1 system?

If you want a 5.1 system you need 5 speakers and a subwoofer typically , and am amp that can drive them all and a source that is 5.1

    > I know nothing of audio systems so sorry if these are too basic questions.

What do you want to acheive ? we can help you

With the grill on, looks pretty good. Also, I like the cover on the tweeter, keeps small people's fingers off it. The number of second hand B&W 600s on ebay with dented tweeters is amazing. I appreciate the argument that it doesn't impact sound quality etc.

So, I'm no audio expert but they have a bigger woofer than either the Dali, Q acoustic or the Denon, so would expect more bass and they do indeed have a better range at the low end. There is a YouTube video comparing the f300 -the little brother -the f301 and the much more expensive f500 bookshelf. This is a recording so wasn't expecting to hear anything but the step up from f300 to f301 made a difference, which really surprised me given it was through a recording, YouTube and then my speakers. As someone said, the 500 are concentric, so that isn't going to come across via a recording and my old speakers! At the end of the day it is a bookshelf two way speaker with 6 inch woofer made by a newish company with a load of expertise from Tannoy, it should be fyne! (edited)

Bought, looking forward to comparing them to the £70 Lonpoo lp42 bookshelf speakers I already have, the lp42s sound good to me, will it be night and day?
    iom_dave's avatar
    iom_dave Author
if night is a phone speaker and Lonpoo is day, i dont think it will be that big. As I said, the bigger woofer should make the low frequency response better. I would also hope that given these are on at richer sounds at 279, would hope there is a good improvement. Maybe post back once you try them :-)

I have a set of Wharfdale Diamond 220's I paid £125 for a few years ago, do you think these would be a decent side-grade? I could re-sell the Wharfdales as used.

They have 30 day returns, you just need to pay postage, though will be a bit over 10kg. My thinking was to give them a go!

so, mine have just turned up. Sound a fair bit more responsive/detailed across the range than my old tannoy mx2s. Bass frequencies also better. Now I just need to replace my old cambridge a1 amp! I guess I need to say something about running them it or something to sound like I know what I'm talking about.

Seem good & great reduction so purchased. Now need to think about the source & amp to drive them.. Leaning towards Denon DM41 atm or maybe Fosi bt 20a pro :/
    iom_dave's avatar
    iom_dave Author
It tried a Fosi, found it was really not very good or at least, much more "noise" than my old cambridge A1 - mine is connect to my pc, so if there is no sound, background hum is annoying. If space isn't a problem there are shed loads of old amps on ebay. If you need a cd player/bluetooth stuff then the Denon is meant to be good.
Assuming you get Denon or Fosi off Amazon, then you can always return it anyway.
