Samsung HWS801B 3.1.2 Ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar for a reasonable price considering it’s only been released last year.

It’s a relatively compact soundbar aimed at those who are looking for a less chunky soundbar. Despite its quite small shallow form it offers superb sound from the various reviews I’ve read. By no means the best soundbar as you will appreciate the top end soundbars have more space to play with and can obviously do more with them. And the connectivity is less than ideal only offering mini hdmi.

However, paired with the compact sub the Dolby atmos delivers a superb immersive sound bouncing sound around you.

I will be buy this soundbar, I like how it looks in comparison to others and really like the features and performance. I’m hoping to find some wireless Samsung speakers that are white to go with it but as yet not quite found anything.

it’s still selling for more direct for Samsun, it’s a fair bit more expensive via John Lewis but you can get it a tad cheaper via eBay if you have a look.

This might not matter to most people, but it's worth noting that this soundbar lacks EARC (it's ARC only), which means it will only play compressed audio via HDMI. Not a big deal if your sources are Netflix, Amazon etc as they include a lossy Atmos track alongside other audio formats.

There are no HDMI inputs and no optical jack. Again, won't matter to most, but worth knowing.

Have this, great bit of kit when you have something on atmos to watch

    Thanks for the positive review.

my new tv arrives tomorrow, I’m 90% sure this is the soundbar I want I just want to check on measurements when it’s on my wall.

im specifically after a white setup.

the reviews sound really good so I’m glad you agree.

This is a great deal if you only want to spend 300 on a sound system. Completely blows the beam out of the water unless you spend 1000 on the beam set up by adding the sub as the beam desperately needs the sub.

They also have a grade b for £25 less if you don’t mind a few scratches.

I’ve pulled the trigger on the new one via eBay, at £251 I think is absolutely brilliant value.
Can’t wait to hook this upto my new TV.

I have the Samsung Q90R TV and think it does not have dolby atmosphere sadly. So I am wondering if this can give it that?! Or how it would sound without it?! Many thanks 🙏

Samsung Q90R TV 'likely does support lossy Atmos passthrough from Dolby Digital Plus sources, including the native Netflix app.' I assume the soundbar can also play Atmos music over Wi-Fi but I'm not sure for certain.

A 2.1 setup is going to be better in 99% of cases than a soundbar. You aren't getting Atmos from a soundbar either.

You aint getting atmos from a 2.1 setup either so whats your point? hell this sound bar is better then a "2.1" purely because it has a centre channel, the most important channel in a ht setup, something your suggestion seems to omit.

Better yet link a decent avr, subwoofer and 2 speakers that can be had for under £300. Deluded. (edited)

This was on offer few months back with the Samsung cashback , in effect 130 pounds after 250 cash back . It’s a superb soundbar

What a beautiful looking piece of kit!

The other thing to consider with this soundbar is the design. Whilst it’s a similar length to most sound bars it’s a round a 1/4 of the overall size, I saw it on top of a Sonos arc and it’s tiny - really smart looking piece of kit.

I ideally wanted the the q990c but at over £1k, taking up a larger footprint and being in black -I’ve pulled the trigger on this.

probably not for the purist of audiophiles but from what I’ve read Im pleased with the purchase. Hoping it’s as good in my house.

No black? Good price of it's as good as the reviews suggest. I've still an ancient onkyo 5.1 setup

Mine arrived this week. It’s phenomenal the sound thst this tiny thing produces.

I watched the covenant last night, the sound was brilliant.

paying £250 for this feels like a steal.

Is there better for this cost? Certainly won’t look as good as this too

Managed to get the last one, it arrived today. The sound is awesome coupled to a 65" The Frame. Love it!

Have you enabled q symphony? Think with that enabled it beats my £1k sonos beam and sub!

I’m looking to add some Amazon studio speakers to the setup tho this Samsung soundbar connected by hdmi to my tv - can this work in harmony? I.e sound will use the soundbar and Amazon speakers ? Thanks

I'm really keen on this soundbar as I have a budget of around £300 and to get a 3.1.2 channel soundbar with up-firing speakers for this price is amazing.

But I understand it only connects (wired) to the TV with HDMI (ARC) as it doesn't have an optical connection. My (Samsung) TV has 4 HDMI connectors (1xARC) and I want to have 4 devices connected to the TV. I think that means I would need a soundbar that has optical connection?

I don't want to have an HDMI splitter/combiner to connect two devices to one of the TV's HDMI connectors.

I guess there is the option to connect to the TV wirelessly via Bluetooth but I have been led to believe that if you connect a soundbar wirelessly with Bluetooth the audio has to be resampled or something and doesn't support all audio formats (codecs?).

Can anyone offer any comments in regard to my dilemma?!

Hey, I've got this and it works great via Bluetooth but is not atmos, just regular surround. You can barely tell the difference though. Do you need all 4 things you have connected to the tv to do atmos? What you could do is have this connected through the arc connection and 3 of your items connected via the other hdmis on your tv. But you wouldn't get atmos via optical anyway so you may as well just connect this to your tv via Bluetooth.
  17. pdug175's avatar
I use this wired and although setup and playback was fine using the wireless feature you couldn't enable atmos

Not sure if it's a bit late for you guys but I've got one of these brand new, opened but never used for £180 plus postage or collect from carlisle?
  19. Stetec's avatar
I've ended up with a 2nd one of these, still in box, thinking of asking £170 plus postage on ebay/gumtree/marketplace etc. Does that sound about right?
