How does Småland work?

Visit Småland in-store. If your child is aged 3 - 10 years old, you can sign in your child for a session at Småland near the entrance of our stores. If there is an estimated waiting time, you'll be informed of this at registration.

Fill out the registration form for yourself and your child at one of our Kiosks. All parents or guardians can sign in a child, but they must be over the age of 18.

Enjoy shopping for 45 minutes around our store while your child does arts and crafts, reads books or plays with lots of imaginative and interactive toys including a ball pool.

Pick up your child. You will receive a notification when it is almost time to pick up your child(ren). Please note, the person who signed in the child must be the person to collect the child.

Småland rules

Småland is a supervised play area for children aged 3-10 years old.

You are not allowed to leave the store while your child is in the crèche.

We work with a 1:8 ratio unless stated otherwise on the day.

All children with SEN will have a ratio of 1:1 on their first visit to allow staff to complete a care plan and risk assessment if needed.

If my child has additional needs can they attend your crèche?

Yes, we would be delighted to welcome your child. On their first visit, we provide one to one care, then based on your advice and on their care plan we can assess if they’re happy to join a future session or we feel one to one support is needed in these sessions.

Please speak with one of our SMÅLAND co-workers to inquire about booking a one to one session.

You may be required to wait for the next available session, especially in peak times – school holidays and weekends, so we encourage parents to check availability as we are keen to manage your expectations and those of your child.

Only 1 person can be responsible for signing a child in and out of the crèche. The person who signed the child in must collect the child from the Småland entrance.

In the event of an emergency, staff will evacuate your child to the assembly point.

All children must wear a security belt.

Småland safety

In the event of an emergency, staff will evacuate your child to the assembly point.

Should we need some assistance with your little one(s), you will receive a notification on the pager given at registration asking you to return to the Småland play area.

All our SMÅLAND staff are all trained in childcare practice and supervisory staff are trained to at least NVQ Level 3 in Childcare.

We always have a co-worker fully trained in paediatric first aid in the Småland area at all times.

I actually went today and used this, my son (4) loved it. You get 45 minutes but the woman told me that I could take him out for 10 minutes and then return him for a further 45 minutes. Which I did because he wanted to. The women were great at Sheffield.

Not been like that for ages, also all of them closed during covid.

With costs increasing, along with 45 mins of free time, it's still very good value, as it's free.

    Cheers.

We took our kids to the opening of the Belfast store and left them in Småland, went for a coffee and then we where evacuated due to a bomb threat! It was a great testament to the staff training as they evacuated all the kids and took them to a designated rendezvous point. We used them for years until the kids became too old.

The Belfast store got rid of the ball pit and completely covered the viewing window. Worth noting that they also have an unsupervised outdoor play area. (edited)

These were actually present pre COVID but stopped for years. Went to Warrington branch last weekend and noted they'd reopened.
You get given a buzzer that activates after 45 minutes.... At least it means that you can visit without being harassed into getting another cuddly toy - I'm one octopus away from a divorce....

What happens to the kids if one leaves them there for more than 45 mins?

45 minutes is about the time it takes in the queue for hot dogs on weekends

It's widely known that hotdogs and meatballs is where the IKEA's profit comes from! Furniture is just a side businessb to bring more people in (edited)

great idea. however 45min is way too short giving your typical ikea size and multi levels.

i think it will do if you know exactly what you want and which department etc.

Certainly this, ideal for knowing what you want and/or a larger click and collect order, which may make things a little more stressful

    Can adults join in?

If only you could explore the vast store, pick up items from the warehouse, queue up, then pack the items in the car etc, all in 45 mins lol

Shame about the age limit, my girlfriend (25) hates IKEA!

The Belfast Ikea store has had 2 evacuations in its 16 years and I was present at both! The first was on the opening day and was a bomb threat, the second was a few years ago and was due to someone accidently setting of the fire alarm by opening one of the fire exits by mistake!
