I love F1, well I love the 'racing', but the prices and the bent corrupt people at the top put me off.
But how on earth can £100 be considered a good price for a ticket to see a race. You can watch it on TV for free, the argument of the noise is no longer valid.

I Have attending Silverstone some years ago as a birthday weekend gift, so I know what it used to be like, but £100 is too much. It should be no more than £40 for a Sunday ticket to watch this race. £100 is a rip off, £150 is stealing and should be criminal.

Silverstone pay 12 million just for the rights to hold it and a further 20 million plus to host it. Unlike most other countries it is not government funded. Trust me, seeing it on the TV is nothing compared to the experience of seeing and feeling the drama live. The noise of those cars is just amazing!

Having never been before, is general admission a bit of a waste of time? … Having never been before, is general admission a bit of a waste of time? Some people you wont be able to see any of the race?

For F1 you really need to be there by 6am. The queues into the venue are manic too so be prepared to get there early and queue. Then get through the gates as fast as possible and dash to get a spot.

Sit there all day and watch a group of cars go past and then wait another 1min 30 to see them again. The longer it goes on the more spaced out they are.

You do get screens and to enjoy it more go with mates and join in with atmosphere. I quite honestly enjoy the GT days more and the events which allow pit walks and keep the F1 for mates in the pub.

    Sorry for the downer.

On a less smug note, go to the Belgian Grand Prix. It is leagues ahead of Silverstone.

Camp at Eau Rouge Camping (Great site, full of characters and no trouble/thefts, great facilities) and have a great time. General admission is fine, loads of good views from Pouhon and Kemmel Straight.

Its an easy drive, even for those who've never driven overseas, and if you get 4 people to a car its pretty economical.

Silverstone is so expensive! I was in Australia last year and was lucky enough to see the F1. The price of a 4day weekend ticket was around £150

Would have been tempted if the engines didn't sound like garbage.

The monstrous sound of an F1 car is huge part of the thrill of going to the track. As for the way they sound now... no thanks.

I've been to loads of GP's.
The 1st time that I went (1980's, Brands Hatch) I had general admission tkts and learnt a big lesson.
Get there early, or not at all.
Since then I've bagged a grandstand seat and chuckled at the girlies in their 6" stilettos wobbling all over the place, sinking into soft earth, etc, etc.
For a few years a gang of us used to go on the Thurs before, grab a berth at the camping (caravanning) site across the road, and crack open the Fosters!
We were amazed how many fellow campers (that obviously had gen'l admission tkts) were heading to form a queue at the circuit gates at 21.00 hrs on the Saturday night!
This is a good deal for those that have their eyes wide open.
Get there early, take pre-packed food (or pay a £5 for a burger), take warm clothing and expect rain or brilliant sunshine.
If you prepare for the day you'll have a great time, but if you turn up late, without doing your research first, you'll have an awful experience.
Don't fall into the trap of thinking that 'I'll just leave the car on a grass verge' because you can't. There are police no parking bollards for miles in each direction and towing vehicles will simply lift your car and you'll have a big fine to pay to get it back.
First timers might consider going on the Fri and/or Sat and taking things from there.
Good luck whatever you decide to do, I'll see y'all there ;-)

The tickets will go on sale at 0900 on Wednesday 28 January and will be sold on a first come first served basis. The £99 ticket is an adult general admission ticket for race day on Sunday 5 July.

Silverstone have also introduced a policy to encourage families to attend the event by reviewing ticket prices for children. Children aged 10 and under can now attend the whole weekend free of charge on a general admission ticket and children aged 11 – 15 can attend race day for only £49.

F1? Not the fastest cars that can be made, have to give them tyres that wear out to make it interesting.
Paid a small fortune a few years ago for grandstand seats poured with rain freezing cold and had to look at the telly to work out who was winning. Waited hours in traffic jams to get in and hours in traffic jams to get out.

Heat added for price even though GA must be even worse than I experienced.
  20. deleted1236725's avatar
I went for the first time to a GP in 2013 with GA tickets. Other than the start/finish line it was easy to move around the circuit and easy to see cars. I honestly couldn't see the appeal of being stuck in one place all day. The park and ride was very easy to use and other than about a 20 minute delay in traffic coming out it was problem free.

If you're going to be dramatic at least try to be factual.Plenty of car parks right next to the track £20.00 parking all day. Food and drink is the same as most takeaways except at silverstone you can take your own, carry around a cool box full of beer, food and water and not have to spend a penny. I have been to the last 3 GP's, you can't beat it for racing, atmosphere and drama and for those who complain about the noise of the cars after watching it on tv, you need to get out more... Great deal.

About 30 quid for a full day of 3 races plus support events. Walk the pitlane and grab some autographs for free at lunchtime. On track action is great and can't beat the smell or the noise! Always good value for money.

I went to the 2011 Grand Prix and I can highly recommend all F1 fans to go at least once in their lifetime to Silverstone especially with Lewis Hamilton right at the top of his game. I saw this on twitter at lunchtime and thought this a bargain considering the usual cost. Just to be there hearing the engines roar past (admittedly a bit quieter now than 2 years ago) and seeing blurs whizz past is thrilling.

One of the few live sports better viewed on the tv. As others have mentioned, very hard to follow what is going on.
Went to Barcelona in 2003 with a grandstand seat and spent most of the time watching a big screen apart from when the leader went through the series of 2 corners I could see. The brilliant weather and surroundings made up for it but no way would I pay for general admission at Silverstone.

Prepare to get there early if you want a good piece of grass to watch from.

Vale is a good corner but really unless you are camping you have between no hope and bob all hope of getting a good spot.

Me and my wife have been for the last 2 years in grandstands (last year on the start finish line at £619 for the 2 of us!) but this year will A: be just after our kid is born and B: too expensive to bother with and we don't want to watch from a muddy bit of grass.

Silverstones prices are degusting. Last year they also restricted the grandstands weekend ticket holders could use on the Friday/Saturday too which they hadn't done the year before. This was just so they could sell most reserved seating that no one even used on the Friday/Sat so they had empty grandstands!

I love F1 but I just can't justify the cost any more. In comparison the FIA World Endurance Championship, 6 Hours of Silverstone race is £40 for the weekend!!!

Blame Bernie though as it costs Silverstone around £16m I believe to host the British Formula 1 GP.

It's also a shame that the F1 in season test won't be at Silverstone as that is perfect for photography and also had pit walks etc.

    £50 parking is scandalous.

£10 park n ride, but that means fighting for a seat on a smelly bus, and I'm guessing the park n ride is a considerable distance from the circuit.

Shame, i've been to Monza and Spa for the grand prix in the last few years, both of them were well under £100 for a weekend general admission ticket.

"garbage" ? There's no way you've been trackside with the new engines.

I would argue the new engines allow a lot more interesting noises as you stand at trackside. The cars snarl and whistle, you can hear tyres screech and when the drivers lift off at the end of the straights you can hear the aero moving over the wings. Totally amazing.
I've watched F1 all over the world and at no point did I think the noise of the old engines was worth the admission costs. If you want noise you watch tractor pulling or Monster trucks. If you want overtaking you watch Karting at a high level.
Formula one remains a technical marvel, it's not for rednecks.

£50 to park my car... maybe not then.

Thats totally obscene!!....There's either clearly not a "cost of living" crises in this country or there are a lot of really stupid people out there, if ANYONE is prepared to pay £50 to park a car on a bit of tarmac/grass (on top of the ridiculous admission prices where, as a lot have said, you won't see **** all anyway!!!) and then to add insult to injury, have to queue for another couple of hours or so to get it off that spot of tarmac/grass at the end of the day!!!....
