This or the 3600 for £20 less?

The 5500 is a bit more power efficient and outperforms the 3600 in games (especially with PBO enabled).
It has no PCIe gen4 support, so depending on what other hardware you have it may or may not be a problem (gen4 NVMe drives being the obvious ones, and a couple of GPU's perform better with gen4). (edited)

    Surprisingly capable CPU.
Paired with an RX 6600 for a budget gaming build for a family member late last year and it's been great.

In case you skipped all the details, no PCIe gen4 support, gen3 only. (edited)

Worth the upgrade from 3600 for modern gaming at 1440p?

A lot less cache so not really. If you're upgrading at all, the 5600 is a much better choice for gaming.

Very tempting compared to 50% more for 5600. Im thinking of making a budget gaming pc. I have a series x for aaa games

    Does the 16mb l3 vs 32mb on 5600 make a big difference?
