Tech & Features

  • GORE-TEX™ upper helps repel water: AMPLIFOAM™ technology cushioning
  • GEL™ technology cushioning provides excellent shock absorption: Solid rubber outsole
  • ORTHOLITE™ sockliner provides soft step-in comfort: Sustainable sockliner dye

The GEL-SONOMA™ 6 G-TX running shoe is designed for the great outdoors. Taking inspiration from the ASICS trail running family, this shoe is a versatile offering that's functional for trail runs, light hiking, and other outdoor adventures. We also used fewer resources to color the sockliner for a more sustainable design approach.

This updated version of our trail shoe is complemented with a GORE-TEX™ upper to help keep feet dry in wet conditions. The focus this season was to improve the fit of the upper, so we implemented a new last design that provides a more secure midfoot and heel fit, while the wider toe box allows the toes to spread out. The synthetic stitching on the overlays is designed to improve durability while also helping feet stay secure and reduce slipping.

Underfoot comfort stems from a full-length AMPLIFOAM™ midsole and GEL™ technology cushioning unit that's placed where runners need the most impact absorption. To increase the softness with every step, we've included an ORTHOLITE™ sockliner for excellent comfort. Additionally, the multi-directional grip outsole improves traction on a variety of surfaces. All of these comfort components are complemented by durable properties, such as the solid rubber outsole—making this shoe a versatile choice for the trails.

Pronation

Designed For Neutral

Neutral
  • Foot Type: Normal size arches
  • Push Off: There is even distribution from the front of the foot.
  • How your foot contacts the ground: The foot lands on outside of the heel, then rolls inward (pronates) to absorb shock and support body weight.

These are quite narrow and tight and keep in mind the mesh will tear up in months' time without any activity or even stressing the shoes!

Don't be misled by the ASICS reviews, they are paid for reviews! Actual customer reviews are buried under them.

I have some sonoma 3 that have done 300 miles of running and are now used for walking the dog, and some GT2000 that have done about 200. Has quality declined recently?

Bought the 5GTX very nice and comfortable shoe for walking the dog.
The goretex seems a bit of a marketing stunt, the feet get wet easily as the water passes through the tongue and the laces.

They let water in through the holes...?

The all black look decent, anyone know the sizing on these generally??

Oops, most all black sizes gone (edited)

I got the Sonoma 5 gtx and they run true to size for me

I have these in the blue version. Love them. They've been on walks in difficult terrain and are superb. Quite good at repelling water but not completely waterproof. Would have no hesitation buying them again, and this is a very good price

Thanks OP! Hot! Had 3 pairs of asics for running, and they've all lasted really well. This will be my first gore-tex pair so hopefully I can run through puddles now . Bought!

TBH I don't rate goretex for trail running, as it keeps the water in too!

I bought the Sonoma 5 GTX back during Black Friday for £27, they’re one of the best pairs of shoes I’ve owned

My neighbor is a sales manager for asics. If the products are anything like the crap he spouts then God help us!

Hi Stephen hope you're okay I waved as I drove past before and you ignored me?

Wife had a pair , ripped after about 7 months of light wear.

That is disappointing! I would have assumed they would last a while.

Thanks OP. Hope these aren't "too" cushioned. I just bought a pair of Adidas solar which threw my hips out due to being so 'squishy'. 🙃 (edited)

How does this pair compare to ultraboost?

Edit: I am looking for a pair for day to day walking on pavements and parks. (edited)

Aren't Ultraboost running trainers? These are trail trainers.

My 12's are true to size and have been great - Salomon convert. Paid the same around this time last year. Ordering another pair. Result (edited)

The right shoe of my 3 yr old pair of sonoma 4 GTX. Disapppointing as i have a Sonoma 5 GTX and a GT 2000 lite show that doing well so far.
Maybe they've improved the later gore tex?

Can confirm these are comfy and keep your feet dry for sure. Can’t comment on durability as I’ve only had this pair 6 months and only wear them when wet as I have a non-gore version too. Sizing wise I am a 10 in ASICS* and adidas. I also think I have quite wide feet… generally find Nike 10s too narrow.

My older ASICS pair prior to this one lasted ages and were worn for full days sport on many occasions.

*running shoes only. I found the size 10 sportstyle too small!

I got the sonoma 5s in February. Use for dog walking on the mean streets of north cardiff… grip on soles have warm down quicker than I expected - but I do wear them a lot - around 400km of wear. They also run a little tight - but are super comfy and good value at that price.

Very comfortable but don’t last long

Awful trail runners. Don’t let the cheap price lure you in. So firm and heavy. I use them for walking now.

I bought a pair in 10.5 to try out. I am normally size 11 in most trainers but that size was sold out. They fit reasonably well.

I won't be using them for trail running at all, but for mainly walking. Hopefully they last longer than my sketchers which are comfortable but get worn out in a few months.
