To save money on buying the PS5 version for circa £40, purchasing this PS4 Disc edition and upgrading to the Directors Cut (PS5) digital version via PS Store would cost £10 on launch day (24th September 2021).
You’d have to use the PS4 disc to access the PS5 digital upgrade on launch. Detailed further here.
Total cost for the above method - £25.95.
Or £24.99 if you buy pre-owned to collect at GAME.
Or £22 if you buy pre owned at CeX (with thanks to for spotting this).
From legendary game creator Hideo Kojima comes an all-new, genre-defying experience. Sam Bridges must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding. Carrying the disconnected remnants of our future in his hands, he embarks on a journey to reconnect the shattered world one step at a time. With spectral creatures plaguing the landscape, and humanity on the verge of a mass extinction, it’s up to Sam to journey across the ravaged continent and save mankind from impending annihilation.
What is the mystery of the Death Stranding? What will Sam discover on the road ahead? An unprecedented gameplay experience holds these answers and more. Starring Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, Léa Seydoux and Lindsay Wagner.

sorted byPerformance upgrades should be free imo.
Paying for dlc content like extra story chapters I get.
But bundling them both together is a low blow.
Imagine paying a additional fee to unlock ray tracing features per game on PC (edited)
I mean games on PC have been providing them free for decades after games were finished and didn't charge...
Just saying.
I'm a Sony man through and through but I bought both consoles this time round.
Love my series x, can't wait for forza horizon 5
Agreed. It’d be great to have the game upgrade for free, with additional DLC as an optional pay upgrade..
There should be a base version on ps5 and that be free. I understand streamlining it by only having one option but c'mon. Just make the SE and the Directors Cut 2 separate games, have them as ps4 AND ps5 version and offer a single upgrade fee available for both platformsm
That's what I meant to imply in my original comment
Yh the exclusives and the controller are saving Sony. Strongly considering getting an xbox just for Fora though.
Other than that there's not much else on xbox that I would play.
Have you thought about grabbing a series s then?
I recently got one for our living room, and it's a potent little machine, £250 is a absolute steal, and they are quite often £200 second hand.
I haven't looked into it much, but know it can do 1440p 120fps. I just need to do a bit more research about how powerful the console is, and if it can actually run games at that resolution /fps.
It can, but it's case by case, I would set your expectation at it being a 1080p locked 60fps machine, that's the consistent experience ive had from it.
Nice one, I’ll add to the info above.
The only reason it makes even the slightest sense is because devs worked on the upgrades after the game was meant to be finished/released, so the upgrades are still technically dlc.
Absolutely
Is this base game to ps5 directors cut? If so that's pretty good considering there's gameplay improvements as well. It looks a lot more interesting than just an amazon delivery man now.
