VRadio - have that on both Android and iOS devices, few more options on Android one, I like it mainly because it allows me to record as well (and you can create your own list of streams)
Also - Chromecast support, option to export your streams to file (incl. your own thumbnails) (edited)

Recordable radio: that's exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you

Can't get DAB where I am in the Highlands so will give it a go. Radio UK (Android app) is the one I've been using, though it has ads and can be a bit glitchy at times.

Edit: Just installed, looks more like my kinda thing Thanks. (edited)

Radio Player is the best one. I was using myTuner but Radio Player is better than anything else.

    radioplayer.co.uk/node/2

I have a Pioneer headunit which was fitted in my car, the aerial is hopeless so I can hardly get DAB and FM is ropey as well. The installer should have recommended a much better aerial anyway I digress. I now use my phone with Android Auto on the head unit and Radio Player is flawless. Just make sure you favourite every station you are likely to listen to then you can find them in the menu in Favourites on the head unit in the Radio Player app

Radio Player has been so good I haven't even looked for an alternative. (edited)

Thanks for the recommendations, I've added a few. Like the idea of recording with VRadio (not sure I'll use it often - shame about the ads), Radio Garden for a wider selection, and Radio Player seems like a nice clean interface.

6Music are playing David Sylvian, who I like, so I'll take that as a positive sign from the universe

Edited to add: I used to use TuneIn Radio (I even have the Pro version) but the BBC removed their channels some time ago, which was a bit annoying.

This is a slight tangent, but there are FLAC radio stations online if you want to access them via websites. (Just an example) hiresaudio.online/cd-…io/ I sometimes have Radio Sputnik or one of the Czech jazz channels playing when at home! (edited)

Pretty certain the BBC shot themselves in both feet there. Removed stations from Tunein and removing iPlayer Radio to be replaced with the piece of rubbish that is BBC Sounds. I listen to so much less BBC content since they made those two changes. I know you can use Radioplayer but not exactly keen on them letting the BBC know my location just to listen to the radio.

Been using Zin radio for a few months and am very happy with it. That said my listening habits are pretty basic.

I use TuneIn Radio, which is good. Might try this, thanks.

    Function aside.

Good that TuneIn radio doesn't collect user data /3rd parties.

Quite a contrast with radioplayer. Eyes wide open .

    Replying to

It's internet radio - not FM LW etc

Hence you don't need to plug earphones in the act as an arial. (edited)

Try Radio Droid 2 free on the play store. Great app with loads of stations. You can record too. No ads as well. I ditched TuneIn radio due to lack of stations. I put in Jamaica and British Columbia in TuneIn & got 0 stations. (edited)

    Downloaded & tried.

It's limited in channels & there's better out there.

But gave it heat as they are the same price & I suspect this will run well on low spec mobiles.

you just ask the OP for any channel you want and they are added - stations are limitless, just ask (edited)
