Looks alright for 320, DAB digital, £2.50 collection, or £4.50 delivery (Free over £50 spend)

GunMetal Grey
Suffolk Blue
Vermillion (Red)
Mallard (Green)
A vibrant radio that fills the room with music, the Solo comes with both FM & DAB+ functionality so you can access thousands of stations, with five presets so you can quickly tune in to your favourites. A stylish design, it has a bright LCD screen, two rotary turners and a soft-touch finish with plenty of colour choice.

Weighing a mere 350g, it's a doddle to carry around. Load it up with batteries (not included), then bring your radio stations to the park, the garden, any room in your house, or anywhere you like. Furthermore, the set’s rubberised finish gives it a grippy exterior for carrying and it won’t slide on surfaces. If you’re somewhere you can’t listen to your stations out loud, you can always plug your headphones into the jack. With this scope for intimate listening, this versatile radio delivers premium convenience at a not-so-premium price.

With great prices and great design, our new brand offers style and quality for modern living today. Whatever you need, there’s joy to be found in ANYDAY.

Any benefit of having one of these over just using tune in via Alexa? Bearing in mind we usually have asked plugged in to a big speaker anyway?

DAB / DAB+ radio receives digitally broadcast signals so doesn’t require an internet connection. Alexa connects to your WiFi and streams via the internet.
They’re two different types of devices.

I've bought this before, had to return it because the backlight was really bright -even when on 'dim'! It cannot be turned off unless you turn the whole thing off. It was bright enough that I didn't need a bedside light, the sound is a bit tinny so maybe not one for the audiophiles among you, but if these things don't matter to you, it's not a bad deal, I wouldn't have ever paid full price for this though

OK. I'm no fan of this radio; I bought one from JL and long story short, price error and I got it for £15. I took it back because of the backlight and furiously loud backlight.
But it was not because it took up space in my very tiny, London studio flat (i.e; think of a small space? In London they tend to halve that same space). I had room for this radio (until I tried to use it...) I don't know what you were imagining in your mind, but....it's really not that large! (edited)

Does it just not scan for stations on startup, everyone I have owned does that, not sure why it is a task, it is after all just a radio.

Best own-brand one from JLP, if you believed Which?, is the Arietta for £39.50 (half price).

"The affordable, compact John Lewis Arietta excels – few radios sound this good. It has a beautifully warm tone that elevates a wide range of musical genres and means speech is wonderfully clear."

I'd read the reviews before parting with any money. Even if it's just £20! If you need your bedroom to be dark at night and intend on this being an alarm clock radio, this is not for you

Awesome price. Sound quality is better than I expected and preset buttons useful. As someone else says the screen light never turns off.

How foolproof is this? Thinking about getting one for my 90 year old grandfather to give him something to focus on, as he often can't find anything interesting on TV.
If I programmed 5 stations into the front would be be able to just turn it on and then adjust the volume and pick from the 5 stations?
    RASB's avatar
    RASB
Yup. Power button, it turns on. Volume control spins to adjust. Then one of the five buttons on the front instantly changes station. About as foolproof as you can get as long as he can remember what is on each button.

Saving to each button just consists of holding it down while tuned to the station you want to save.
