I just moved from three to o2 and noticed that you can get free WiFi pods from virgin (you have to have virgin broadband, obviously) once your volt benefits are activated.

Simply call virgin and give them your o2 number (I think the o2 number also has to be in the virgin account holders name)

You can also get them for free if you're on virgins top 1gig fibre package.

Ask them to send you a WiFi pod (mesh system) and you should receive it in a couple of days, initially they tried to charge me £5 postage but as a loyal customer they send this out free. Or it was free click & collect.

If one pod isn't enough you have to call up again after receiving the first pod to get the second, and same again for the third.

Not sure why they can't just send you all three at once but I'm not complaining too much as it's free.

"Exclusive Virgin Media O2 Volt benefits include:

A broadband speed boost to the next tier available (e.g. 100Mbps boosted to 200Mbps)
Double mobile data on all eligible O2 Pay Monthly plans (e.g. 10GB boosted to 20GB)
Up to £150 off a connected device such as a tablet or smartwatch when taking a new O2 Pay Monthly Custom plan
WiFi Pods available to bolster connectivity around the home
Roaming in 75 countries including USA, Australia and Spain with O2 Travel"

Yeah exactly. I currently have Netgear orbis which I'm sure are superior but my yi cameras act up on them all the time.

So I'm trying these pods out instead but will most likely need all 3 pods.

Vm customer service is atrocious that’s why I try one phone call if I get no joy I go through the executive team after that usually gets sorted then

You'll have to contact virgin for this. My o2 volt benefits e.g. double data haven't applied yet but my virgin ones have. I need to contact o2 myself to ask why.

So just contact both virgin and o2 if you can. (edited)

I guess it depends who you speak to.They've been ok for me but sometimes they don't understand what you're trying to explain. Unless I'm just rubbish at explaining it haha

I spoke to around ten different people through chats and calls, got passed from pillar to post, hung up on etc. Was told several lies about how much I had to pay, with various different costs, one being £39 extra per month and a £35 activation fee, others the £35 activation fee, £25 extra and finally £1 extra per month.

I clicked a button on O2 and a few days later it activated.

I would have accepted the £35 activation fee only I had spent hours arguing with them about the Hub 4 my friends and family were offered for free, which I was not. They also told me all sorts of lies about that, from depends on your package to location to time you took the package etc etc. I referred my friends and family to Virgin Media a few years back and got them on the same Black Friday deal I was on, on the same day I took it last year. They live in the same area. Finally I got put through to the top and after trying the same lies, they finally settled on 'every account is treated differently'.

Have spoken to 2 separate O2 agents who said it takes 14 days . Virgin tried to activate it from their side it didn't work. Anyone got it activated same day. If so how? BTW O2 Customer services is a nightmare to get through they will discourage you to speak to an agent anyone found the sam

Took around a week for mine to activate. (edited)

I opened a chat in the virgin media app about poor WiFi at the front of the house and the agent actually told me that I can get 3 pods for free as I was on an Ultimate Oomph package. Worth a shot, screen grab it and go from there.

They'll only send one at a time hoping that will fix it, I think you need to call again to get another one. I have one and it's improved the wireless camera at the front, no more issues with the nest app saying the camera has poor connection. Still not getting anywhere near 600mbs though

Had an absolute nightmare getting the Virgin side of Volt activated after being told all sorts of lies. Hours of calls and online chats and finally they gave me the upgrade for free. Not such issue with O2. Hub 4 due to arrive tomorrow so I'll see if it's an improvement in terms of coverage and if not order one of these.

It takes 14 days from the time you enrol for o2 volt using the my o2 app to get the speed boost (it can be done manually by an agent at virgin but depends who you get) . You should also be sent a hub4 IF you're being upgraded to gig1 fibre. The pods are not yours to keep. Please don't sell them. Normal customers pay £5 per month for virgin to maintain the pods. They are expensive bits of tech. You must wait 5 days AFTER receiving your first pod to order the second and the same applies for the third. If you ever leave o2 you'll lose the volt benefits. Hope that clears the confusion

I would have thought it would needed to be in router mode myself as that activates the WiFi so it can speak to the pods but I could be completely wrong about that..

Still waiting for a third pod before I go ahead and try anything.

You may want to just pay a one off for a cheap mesh system on amazon. Unless the extra £5 makes more financial sense to you. (edited)
