If you do your research you can for a little more get better optics than this - there are good stargazing forums discuss the pro's and cons of stargazing binoculars and telescopes. Look at binocularsky, staratnightmagazine and astrogeartoday - they all have good introductory posts/articles.

Essentially, for entry level best to get a pair of good binoculars (I got Nikon Action EX for my child for 160 last year), if your budget is greater than that (and you have more time - it takes time time and time to look at stars and adjust these things) then go for a telescope.

    Edit:
1 I removed an incorrect statement about BAK4- thanks to posters below
2 how well the optics are made matters a lot bfor ability to use it for stargazing - recommend reading about it (edited)

Just where do you get the idea that "BAK4 = cheap chinese optics"? - I have a number of very high quality (non-chinese) binoculars that have BAK4 prisms - indeed the Nikon Action EX that you're so keen to tell us about also have BAK4 prisms...This deal may well be for a cheapish Chinese-made scope, but the glass used for the prism is no indicator of that.

What 's more concerning is that people are coinfusing this (a Spotting scope) with a telescope - this device is intended for use to spot targtes or for wildlife/bird watching - not for looking at the stars.....

48926189-wELKr.jpgIts an OK telescope, this is the best photo I could take with my mobile phone mounted to it. I wish I just saved some more pennies for something a little more powerful and able to accurately position. Trying to lock on to a planet is very difficult

Seeing that has helped. The magnification is not quite upto scratch.

Not sure why people are confusing spotting scopes with telescopes. I had commented on a £65 Travel Scope 70 about how rubbish its tripod was, but otherwise it had decent optics. Well, that rubbish tripod is way better suited for astronomy that this tiny spotting scope stand and a telescope takes interchangeable eyepieces, so the Travel Scope 70 would be fine operating at up to 150x for the Moon and planets.
A spotting scope in general is a bad match for astronomy, it will be more expensive than a telescope and worse performing for astronomy. For this money you can get a Heritage 100P, which would blow an 80mm spotting scope away in anything but actual spotting/bird watching etc which is what spotting scopes are made for!

PS. Amusingly, I looked up the brand "Gosky" since I had not heard of it and from the name I expected maybe something Polish? But it's "GoSky" which makes a bit more sense (edited)

Looks great. My 5 year old has a basic telescope. This looks like it would offer a more stable image and quick setup for looking at the moon etc

What telescope do you have? Try Sky-watcher heritage 76. Cheaper than this and easy to use for kids.

I have something very similar from Lidl which cost £25, which I use as a spotting scope for rifle shooting. For the price I can't fault it. I do wonder if this is more than 4x better. Doesn't have a smartphone mount, mind. They come up periodically at both Aldi and Lidl.
