IMO tumble dryers should attract 100% VAT. Stopped using ours over a year ago, just pop the washing on a £10 rack from ASDA. The next day it’s all dry at no charge. Or in the summer hang outside for 2 hours.

No thank you I like my house without mold and I like my children without lung disease from all the humidity (edited)

another £100 gets you a heat pump equivalent, you'll save that back in electricity costs in a year or two

Buy cheap, buy twice. Had this and it failed 13 days after the 1 year warranty. Would never have the brands Hoover, Candy or Hotpoint (all the same brand) in my home. They are trash. They’re cheaply made, unreliable, poor quality and these days not built to last. Replaced with a Samsung Heat Pump Tumble Dryer I saw on HUK on offer. Much better build quality, works better and has the 5/10 year Parts AND Labour guarantee. Much better in my opinion

Hotpoint is not the same brand, they are a whirlpool brand, along with indesit.

Perhaps you are thinking of Haier, who own candy and hover. (edited)

To the Candy-haters, we have a Candy washing machine and a Candy tumble dryer (vented type), both approaching 19 years old and both still working. Admittedly, a lot can change in 19 years, so perhaps the quality has gone downhill since we bought ours, but that's no reason to generalise that cheaper brands are rubbish.

Hi. Am i right in thinking this can be used in cold conditions e.g. Shed? I have a heat pump atm in the shed and it does not function great in the cold.

It should work in the shed, it has a conventional heating element, but they usually advice using a vented dryer, I would assume the reason is water collecting in the water tank in a condensing dryer could freeze up and damage the machine. Vented are also the simplest and most reliable, but obviously require an external vent hole.

It is also going to be drastically more expensive to run than your heat pump!

I would be tempted to keep the heat pump and build a large insulated cabinet to put it in, using non-flammable insulation (not polystyrene!) and add a mini very low wattage heater if absolutely needed. (edited)

Would echo the above, I'd pay a bit extra for the heat pump ones, ao.com have a tool that shows you how much you will save in electricity over (I think) 15 years vs a conventional / least efficient tumble dryer and it was about £7,000. We got the top of the range Samsung one on credit as it was more than we wanted to spend, but I know we'll make that back in power usage over a few years and not a drop of condensation in the small room it operates in either.

I’ve got this exact machine. Purchased it in November 2021 and it has literally just failed one me. Repairing it will cost £145 but I think I will be getting another one instead. It’s very noisy too I wouldn’t recommend it if I’m honest but was tempted by the price at the time which I think was £280

If it is going to cost that much to repair, unless you use it in a cold shed or garage, I'd replace it with a heat pump dryer, which would only use 40% of the electricity this model does.
