Just a note that I posted the deal as there was a dryer discussion on another thread. I personally dry my clothes using this, which probably uses less than a quarter of the electricity and keeps the house dry - but you have to use a rack.

    This is what it says.

Laundry mode – when you’re drying laundry indoors, your relative humidity will rise. On this setting, your dehumidifier will run at full speed for 6 hours to help dry your clothes and then automatically switch off to save energy.

Given a HP dryer will be doing a load with around 1kWh unlikely a dehumidifier can get to a 1/4 of that to remove the residual moisture from laundry.

Remember a HP dryer is really just a type of self contained dehumidifier.

I can see your point. At 6 hours to 'dry' a load of washing, which will also be stiff as a board, it doesn't even stack up on cost.

The cheapest way to dry our washing, as ever, is hanging it on the washing line on a warm, bright, breezy day.

Even a cold breezy day will work, helps to have cover area in case it rains.

There is also convenience and how much space you have to stick stuff on racks.

Underwear and smaller items just stick in the dryer can't be bothered to peg out or rack.

Shirts on hangers, outside or inside sometimes a mix then hit with the iron.

Jeans shorts sometimes hang sometimes dryer.

Bedding towels etc. mix sometimes just easier to use the dryer they take up so much room. (edited)

I can't imagine using towels not dried in a tumble dryer, even on a breezy washing line they come out too stiff. We usually take them in before they're fully dry in the summer and give them a tumble to fluff them up. Modern sensor dryers take the guesswork out of how long they need to finish off. (Ooh-er, missus!)
