should show some examples taken with this camera

I'm probably nowhere near your skill level, which means I need a good camera to take consistently good pictures.
I'm not sure where they get the 18 from - you can find specifications and manuals on the panasonic site HERE.

Unfortunately mentioning your journalistic skills did set you up nicely for the grammar police
I do agree that correcting grammar on on-line message boards is hardly the most efficient or productive use of time.
P.S. Whatever spell-checker your browser employs hasn't been correcting you thus far
No problem, perhaps my original comment could have been clearer.
As an aside, when they come back into stock the Sony Outlet store does the DSC-HX200 bridge for £149 delivered, which has EV +/-, bracketing and an EVF!
You are right the NEX 3 is the entry model; I'm not sure that knowing the NEX model line backward and forwards is the sum of all photographic knowledge although I'm looking forward to your cogent arguments to convince me of this
However, please can we continue this argument in Misc rather than this deal thread? PM me if you start a thread and we can continue pointlessly arguing
Sorry about that. Made me laugh though.
Changed from Panaconic to Panasonic
Blimey, obviously rushed the deal post.
Title corrected.... again.:|
Didn't quite get that, this is £10 cheaper than Very so it's an inferior deal?
wow a whole 9 camera's
joking.. yes it is.
Here we go again, the stalker's back. The whole point of a bridge camera is it's versatility, ie, it's ability to perform adequately across a range of subject matter, from action, wildlife, portraiture, holiday snaps etc. The advantage of an EVF when taking fast-action shots, or indeed any kind of photos on a sunny day, is enormous. Without an EVF, a bridge camera has little advantage over a high-zoom compact.
Agreed.
it's a bridge camera, you can't change the lenses. It comes with a fixed 25mm (Equivalent) Wide Angle Lens
Exactly the same reason that put me off this deal - those images are quite noisy in original resolution. It's not really that much an upgrade compared to my old Canon A590IS. Since image quality is what I look for the most in digital cameras, the obvious choice would be to stop buying these hot-deal budget cameras every 2-3 years and save that same money for a DSLR investment - but try telling the same thing to my brain god, I hate him sometimes.
Not spotting this deal was for a compact fixed lens camera did seem to indicate a lack of knowledge
Even a very poor EVF is better than nothing when confronted with a bright day and a camera with an LCD that isn't powered by hydrogen/helium fusion.
You're hardly comparing equivalents in a lot more than price terms. Perhaps you should be looking at higher price bridge cameras.
The NEX is very much smaller than this bridge camera; as you would expect on a "system compact" so some useful items including the EVF and Flash are not built into the camera; as you would expect they are included on the higher range models. You can buy and EVF for around £250 so clearly there is a demand, however small, for one. The NEX LCD has twice the resolution of this camera and tilts - both of which may help on bright days.

i bought this one at the same time as the camera and it is a snug fit, only enough room for a spare set of batteries though

as for the camera, cannot complain about it at all. i thought it was a snip at £80 so i bought it then and havent been dissapointed yet
Dont worry, thats whats spell checker is for.
You can keep correcting peoples minute grammatical errors on online message boards (Yikes!), while I'm out there earning the big bucks, travelling the world. Maybe you could follow in my footsteps!
marked shutter button already, and very poor at focusing whilst at an airshow on moving objects,I resorted to my trusty TZ65, which when you consider its the same manufacturer, the LZ20 should have been the better camera.
very very disappointed, even for£49 (net of voucher)
Exactly the kind of scenario you need a viewfinder for!!
That's a very useful gallery for anyone interested in the image quality.
The images are best viewed at a realistic size rather than at original size; say Large 1600x1200 (that's bigger than your HD TV).
If you download the image you'll be able to view the camera settings such as shutter speeds and ISO values...
When comparing with your old camera remember to view the images at a comparable size; for instance if you look at the image at original 16mp size it may seem horribly noisy compared to your old 5mp camera; but how does it compare viewed at 5mp size?
I'd still suggest saving more and buying better, if possible, but isn't that always true?
Regarding the images:
The zoom shot shows the weakness of most extreme telephotos where because of the small aperture ( f5.8 ) at extreme zoom a high (noisy) ISO 400 is used - a few Bridge cameras such as the Panasonic FZ200 don't have this issue (it has a wide f2.8 aperture through the entire zoom range) .
The macro shot shows quite nicely the noise at ISO 400.
The dancing shot seems to show a poor selection by the camera processor; by using a low (200) ISO and a long exposure (1/8 second) for an image with a lot of movement everything is very blurred.
