Update to our release dateThe game is done! But we can't release it :/
This is the type of announcement us game devs all dread making. We have an update regarding Portal: Revolution’s planned release today on January 5th 2024.
Right off the bat, I want to say that the game is done. We could ship at any moment, but Valve has yet to review and accept the game for release.
All games on Steam need to undergo a review process by Valve before the developer gets the option to release. According to Valve, this usually takes 2-3 business days and developers are advised to submit their game at least two weeks before the intended ship date.
Before we set our January release date, I checked with Steam Support, whether Valve would be able to review during the holidays. Their response “We will still have a reduced team working during the holidays, so expect long review times. I've changed (And immediately published) the release date for you.” gave me confidence that they’d still be able to review it in time.
The build we submitted on December 20th has not been reviewed yet, so even though we’re done on our part, we can’t ship. In hindsight, we should have seen this coming and we definitely learned my lesson to not ship during holidays again.
Shortly before posting this announcement, we finally got a response from Valve and they are now reviewing our game. We still don't know when the game will release at this point, so we will post another update once they accept our game for release.
