Sony XR55A80KU

Next generation picture and sound with Cognitive Intelligence
Take vision and sound to the next level with Cognitive Processor XR™. Our revolutionary processor on Sony BRAVIA XR™ TVs reproduces content the way humans see and hear for an incredibly lifelike experience. It understands how the human eye focuses, cross analysing images to give real life depth, extraordinary contrast and beautifully vivid colours.

Exceptional pure blacks for real-life depth and texture
Pairing our OLED panel with XR OLED Contrast Pro, this TV boosts colour and contrast in bright areas so you can enjoy unprecedented pure blacks and peak brightness. Combined with Cognitive Processor XR™, it enhances pictures in the same way as your eyes focus so you won't miss a single detail in dazzling light or deep shadow.

Screen is the speaker, pictures and sound in harmony
Acoustic Surface Audio+™ uses special actuators to turn the screen into a multi-channel speaker. You'll hear sound that precisely matches what’s on screen with pictures and sound in total harmony for a truly immersive experience.

Hands-free help from Google
With hands-free voice control built into Google TV, you can set aside your remote and simply use your voice to control your TV. Ask Google to find a specific title, search by genre, and get personalised recommendations on what to watch by saying, "Ok Google, what should I watch?". Even get answers on screen, control smart home devices, and more

Bring the cinematic experience home, enjoy movies included with BRAVIA XR™
A huge number of movies are waiting for you. With BRAVIA XR technology, Pure Stream™ and IMAX® Enhanced, everything you watch is delivered with stunning visuals and expressive sound quality. With BRAVIA CORE Calibrated mode, your movie will automatically adjust to the optimal picture settings to create a truly exceptional at-home movie viewing experience.

Perfect for PlayStation®5
BRAVIA XR™ TVs are designed to work great with PlayStation®5 consoles. Together, BRAVIA XR and PS5™ create an incredible experience through immersive picture and sound that will make you feel like you're right in the middle of the action.

Pure blacks for real-life depth and texture
XR OLED Contrast Pro boosts colour and contrast in bright areas for exceptionally realistic pictures defined by absolute pure blacks and peak brightness. With a temperature sensor and high luminance panel, this OLED TV utilises our Cognitive Processor XR™ to detect screen temperature and precisely control light so pixels in bright areas are illuminated simultaneously.

A wide colour spectrum for real-world shades and hues
Powered by our Cognitive Processor XR™, XR Triluminos Pro enables A80K to access over a billion colours and reproduce each one with the subtle differences seen in the real world. Together with our wide colour gamut panel and human-centric processor, it can detect colour from saturation, hue and brightness to deliver natural shades in every detail.

Recreating lost texture, all your content upscaled to 4K
With XR 4K Upscaling, you'll enjoy entertainment close to 4K quality, whatever the content or source. Our Cognitive Processor XR™ accesses a vast amount of data, intelligently recreating lost textures and detail for real world pictures.

Intelligent motion processing for smooth, fast-moving action
Powered by our Cognitive Processor XR™, XR OLED Motion combats blur by detecting and cross analysing key visual elements on successive frames. It creates and inserts extra frames between the original ones so you can enjoy smooth and clear action, even in fast-moving sequences.

Screen is the speaker, sound follows pictures precisely
Sound comes directly from the screen with Acoustic Surface Audio+™. Triple actuators behind the TV vibrate to create acoustics that move with the picture. Two actuators on the sides also improve high frequency sound with clear and natural dialogue. Left and right subwoofers boost bass for immersive sound at home.

All your entertainment upscaled to 3D surround sound
With BRAVIA XR™, everything you watch gets the true surround sound treatment. XR Surround virtually creates surround sound from the sides and vertically using just the TV speakers, so you can experience 3D audio without the need for in-ceiling or up-firing speakers. Our BRAVIA XR™ TVs are also compatible with Dolby Atmos.

I have the 77" of this and the picture quality is awesome. Unless you have to position your TV with the sun shining on it in a bright room, this will be more than bright enough imo. I have my brightness level set at 15 (5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,MAX) which could be due to the size of the screen but any higher and it's too bright for long viewing sessions. The upscalling is amazing, so on a 55" it will look even sharper plus motion is arguably the best with the XR processor. Google TV is great, I've replaced my Mede8er med600x3d with KODI to play content from my NAS and the OS is slick and quick. This also has DTS/HD/MA/X passthrough if that's a requirement. 5 year warranty too!

    * Costco are awesome for buying TV's imo, 90 day satisfaction guarantee + 5 years warranty. £15ish online for membership if you're not a member ,but this is worth it just for the 90 day satisfaction guarantee alone.

They are very similar, is it worth £200 more buying the 2022 model is the question

From what I've read, the sound is slightly better on the J and picture is a smidgen brighter too (probably down to initial the non EVO panel when first released). Can't say for sure whether later models do have the EVO Panel, look here for more info on the subject and whether it's worth it. The K will have an EVO panel and has been said to have brighter highlights but it's not like you will notice any real differnce only measured. The K is also a year newer so it might be supported a little longer but the again they both run Google TV on the same mediatek chipset so it would be up to Sony to decide.

I am stuck as to whether to get this or or the LG C2, both have their pros and cons, but which is better?

It's a close call really but for me there were 3 reasons.
    1. I needed DTS passthrough (which LG do on C3 again but don't know if they will push it down to C2)
    2. Sony picture/motion/upscaling is aruably the best with the XR processor
    3. Google TV - saved me buying a new 4k capable media player I could use KODI app.

I don't game on my TV so having only 2 hdmi 2.1 ports wasn't a concern (which is only if you have more than one high refresh rate console/PC connected and wan't to use ARC/eARC too).

Price also plays a part, I got lucky when the Sony I was after dropped in price.
