SF6 insulation pretty much isnt worth the effort to hang, its so thin its suitable only for a shed - Aldi a few years ago did SF19 for the same price - which was useful as it combined with 100mm PIR meets roof insulation planning requirements.

I have a modern generally well insulated home with some (inadequate) loft floor insulation and largely boarded. During the coldest weather pre-Christmas significant condensation was dripping off the loft felt. No condensation inside the house, which was also cold at the time (~12c). Can't get my mind around what is happening here and the potential 'fix'. Can anyone advise?

You need to make sure ventilation is adequate and also check for potential sources of moist air getting into the loft. For example, our house had downlights fitted in the bathroom and en-suite by previous occupants that were not the sealed (IP65) type so allowed steam from showers to pass straight up into loft space. I replaced them with IP65 shower rated downlights to stop that happening. Other sources could include leaking extractor fan ducting in the loft, poor ventilation in the main part of the house and drying washing in radiators etc. It all adds up, and if moist air can find its way into your loft it will condense on the cold surfaces.

This wont do anything. Just get 270mm of insulation fitted on the loft floor. If you need storage, get elevated loft boarding fitted

Insulation on the floor won't stop my loft, and everything stored in it, getting covered in thick dust, which is presumably coming in from the roof.

On the list of many projects I have outstanding is to insulate the conservatory a bit. The other half is convinced she wants something that can be still be returned to a conservatory though as she likes how light it feels.

Would some sheets of this attached to plasterboard in removable ceiling panels be any good?
(planning on using stixall to attach some railings so they can just slide in/out when needed)

I would recommend using PIR + plasterboard instead. Much better insulation properties.

Is this any good for hiding a heat trace from a helicopter? just asking on behalf of a friend

Or just use double layer of Asda smart price tinfoil.

    Absolutely.

Is the best way to install this to roofing joists just with a staple gun?
    Fraser_Gordon's avatar
I'm guessing you are referring to rafters, then yes a hammer stapler or staple gun is the best option for fixing. (edited)

Might not make a massive difference as you would need to put onto the plasterboard underneath any loft insulation to have best effect. You really want to try and stop heat rising into the loft space in the first place .
I quick and more effective use would be to put foil behind radiators
