'Hondo' (1953)
An embittered Indian scout attempts to escort a homesteader's wife and her son back to safety after her cowardly husband deserts her during an Apache attack. When she refuses to go, the scout stays on to help for a while and, over time, forms a strong bond with both her and her son.

'McLintock!' (1963)
G W, a cattle baron, has been waiting for his daughter to return. To his surprise, his wife, Katherine, has also returned after a two-year separation only to seek a divorce from her husband.

'True Grit' (1969)

Led by older brothers John (John Wayne), a gunfighter, and Tom (Dean Martin), a gambler, the four soon learn that their father gambled away the family ranch, which was the cause of his murder. The brothers decide to avenge their father's death and win back the ranch, a situation that quickly leads to trouble with the local sheriff and violent conflict with the rival Hastings clan.

A senator returns to a Western town for the funeral of an old friend and tells the story of his origins.

    I love the trailer for Hondo. The first minute is pure comedy with that voice over

    I think the character's name might be Hondo. Just a hunch though. (edited)
