Awful cover... So I replaced it with the blu-ray one:

Remember in the year 2000 when a film from 1980 looked like a film from a different generation, or watching a film in 2010 from 1990 looked like it was 20 years old. Yet this is almost 25 years old now and looks like it was made less than 5 years ago. Crazy when you think about it.

I'm a big fan of the cinematographer, Bill Pope. He also filmed 2004's Spiderman 2 (the Tobey Maguire one) which IMHO looks way more dynamic and exciting than modern action adventure movies.

Pope was heavily involved in re-colour grading The Matrix for its 4K master. The DVD was drained of its original grade, the blu-ray had its greens exaggerated, this master is what the Wachowskis aimed for in 1999, but even better thanks to modern tech. Delineation between colours is laser perfect. The Wachowskis gave their approval too.

I'm curious if anyone's compared its HDR10 base layer with the Dolby Vision version. I'm shopping around for players but the choice is extremely limited and DV adds a significant premium. (edited)

    "Andy and Larry Wachowski..."

5 years hard labour, followed by execution by stoning.

That lobby scene, used for testing surround sound systems for years. Now in Atmos, yummy

The whole third act. From infinite racks of weapons cascading towards, around and behind the characters. The gun fu lobby massacre. The slowmo fireball eating up the (now empty?) lobby slamming the lift door into the screen. The rooftop melee followed by the bullet dodge ballet. Neo helicoptering down and raining iron death on the Agents. And the subway battle with bullets splitting our ears while Neo and Smith duke it out. Incredible stuff. (edited)
