Greatly Reduced Lag, More Fun
Wi-Fi 6 brings stable and responsive Wi-Fi connections to tomorrow's hyper-connected home. Enjoy more responsive gaming and seamless video chatting even when multiple compatible devices are connected and transmitting data at the same time.

Maximum wireless signal rates are the physical rates derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual wireless data throughput and wireless coverage, and quantity of connected devices will vary as a result of network conditions, client limitations, and environmental factors.

Is this better than the tp link deco m5?
    twiggy9999's avatar
    twiggy9999
It depends on how you define better? I have these m5 roof-mounted and x60s mainly downstairs where it wasn't practical to mount electric outputs in the roof.

The m5 has a slower overall speed, 867Mbit/s on 5GHz and 400Mbit/s on the 2.4GHz band. The x20 has 1200Mbit/s on the 5GHz and 574Mbps on the 2.4GHz channel. If you have gigabit broadband or transfer large files often then the x20 would give you a better experience. If you don't have gigbit broadband and don't move large files around your network often the m5's are perfect, especially if you're mounting them in your roof.

These don’t even support Mac-address whitelisting. Anyone using them opens them-self up to being hacked very easily.

There are literally step by step instructions available online… would never recommend any TP link network devices. They are cheap. There’s a reason why…. Lol (edited)

    Can this do 1Gbps?

1Gb ports. So if you use wired backhaul, then this would be best. Wireless backhaul will never achieve 1Gb speeds.

I bought this in July 2021 for £4 more to replace Tenda MW6/3

Has been rock solid - I run in AP mode, connected via Powerline adapters

Two points cover a four bedroom two storey house well, when correctly positioned (edited)

Currently using M4 units without an issue, this seems like a reasonable price for WiFi 6

Buying gift cards using Swipii saves an extra 11% - so £89.10 in total

Not into the units themselves but think it integrates via the app.

Just taken a look at mine and it states...

It might be a good price, but at what cost ? Lack of basic security features, inviting hackers to grab your personal data ? Hmmm let me think :/ …… errrm NO… lol

Would this be enough to provide cover for a 3 bed house
    northbank1886's avatar
    northbank1886
Normally yes, but very dependant on the construction methods of the house.

I would definitely purchase at this price and return if it doesn't work out for you.

If it helps this X20 works like a dream in my place.

Can a TP-link Deco S4 hook on to this, if I have this as the main unit? Will that slow the network down? Thanks.
    low_level_devel's avatar
    low_level_devel
Yes, you’d def want one of the x20s as the main node so the security filtering works. I have a similar setup with x20s and s7s.

    Will this work with bt
    cj1976's avatar
    cj1976
Yes, but some of the functions might not. Basically the Deco kits can work in two modes - router or access point (AP), router doing all of the management functions and AP just providing wired/wireless connections. ISP kit can generally work either as a router or a modem, the key point is you usually want only one router on your network. However with my BT Home Hub, it will only operate as a router with no modem-only mode, meaning my connected Decos have to operate in AP mode, so not all of the advertised functions can be used.

Can you not plug these directly into your ont?
    mossmanfly's avatar
    mossmanfly
Yes you plug 1 of them directly into the ONT, and ditch your old router if thats what you want to do.

I have Netgear orbi rbk50's... Trying to work out if there is a lot of benefit from the wifi6? Anyone know at all. The orbi have higher throughput and more ports but are a few years old now

Would these be ok for virgin 350mb fibre. I have their awful router and need better speeds upstairs. What’s the best way to set these up?
    flywhitesi's avatar
    flywhitesi
That’s my set up. You just put the virgin router into modem mode and connect via Ethernet to the Deco unit. Follow the Deco set up via the app.

To keep it super simple, use the same network name and password on the Deco as you have for the Virgin router. That way, all your existing devices will not require reconfiguring.

I've got 20 of these. The tech support is limited basically none existant on the forums. There's little to no settings you can change, can't even choose what WiFi channel to use. SSH is locked down firmware updates are crap, it's designed for people who want plug and play. And don't make networks more than 6 nodes or they just drop out constantly.

It also wants a constant connection to tplink servers for the app to work. Plus the app is crap it drops out alot if your remote viewing the network

Speedwise I've seen 625mb download sitting less than a meter from a node. If they are in a ceiling or with any obstacles it will be 300mb

They can be set up in ap mode or router mode. All settings are changed from the app nothing can be changed via web interface. Only rebooting and firmware updates are allowed

Also if you run these through switches good luck. As it makes the who experience even worse. These units have a wireless backhaul "feature" which isn't even disabled when ethernet connected. Creating loads of loops in the network. Tripping out switches and reboots devices due to loop protection kicking in (edited)

20 of these!? I think you should be looking at industrial spec units like Cisco Meraki if you’re running a network that big.

I purchased a X60 triple pack and was massively disappointed. I ended up going back to my Apple AirPort Extreme and Expresses. Subsequently I replaced all my express units with more Extreme units and the still work fantastically.
I found the TP link units just too inconsistent. Setting up was difficult and they don’t like network switches. Boxed them back up like and I’ve wasted £300.

If none of our hardware is wifi 6 will we not gain anything from this mesh system?
Current mesh is tri band. (edited)

A great price, I would have bought this if this price was a month ago. Oh well.
One tip I got from a colleague, if you are replacing your existing wifi with these, then give the wifi network the same name and password as your existing wifi network. Then turn off your existing wifi when you set this up, and that way you don't need to reconfigure any of the devices to work on your new Deco system. Handy for such devices as the TP-Link cameras that need to be reset to factory defaults to connect to a new wifi network, this way means you don't need to do that but you may need to power cycle the cameras so they connect. Of course, this is assuming your existing wifi has sufficiently secure password.

I have the X60's and honestly, blows my old Ubiquiti AP out of the water, getting faster speeds on WiFi than on cable
