  • Victorinox £40: The standard option here, as has been forever, is the Victorinox Fibrox. However, a new version has been released! This one has an updated handle, which is much much more comfortable (you can now do a proper pinch grip with the Victorinox!), and doesn’t get in the way as much when you’re sharpening.

  • The modern is slightly lighter than the old fibrox. You can buy the knife at kniveandtools here (feel free to check for other colours, including blue, pink and lilac.

  • There are also walnut handled chef knives, not currently in stock at knivesandtools but should be soon. There are currently 6 colours + walnut in the Modern range, I've only seen blue/black for the chefs knife so far but I expect the others will appear eventually). There is also the equivalent petty/utility here

If you can find this cheaper, thats great, feel free to post it, as in the US its $40/£33, while this site has it for £49

If your after something smaller they have 8cm and 15cm knives, and the 8/10cm is ever popular on here. and lots of people have unfortunately cut themselves with it, as they are sharp. So as always with knives, be careful.

Moderator wasnt keen on the reddit links, and their a bit of a pain to find. So have to leave them out, but you'll need to look them up.

Butit puts context into why this is a great knife at a great price and why 95% probably dont need anything else as their main knife. (edited)

I wonder how it compares to the Misen knife due to the similar look.

Wish victorinox would be more specific about the steel they use.

Prefer the rosewood handle. This one is kinda skinny

yeah its nice for sure, i think the Rosewood handle is the same blade as the Fibrox, so grip aside this is better in that regard, but it is a different "blade" to the modern, not sure how much of a difference it is though.

Some have also mentioned a smell from the rosewood handles too, so something else to keep in mind. reddit.com/r/c…od/ (edited)

I have one of the wood handled ones, about 4 years old now. Have to sharpen it weekly as it loses its edge very quickly, but even when blunt it’s sharper than freshly sharpened “cheap” knives.

Not sure I’d go for anything harder if you’re using for every purpose as it’s picked up quite a few nicks the blade over the years.
