I've had three of the minky equivalent. The tab on the bottom where you wrap the line always goes brittle and eventually snaps. Wondering if these ones would fare any better?

Pro tip. Screw a cleat into the wall below the retractable part of the line and use that as the point to tie off to (edited)

Don't think so, the George one that looks lower quality is £4, they don't sell the Vileda one unless you found a local bargain.

These are the kind of reviews I was referring to above. I wonder if the plastic goes brittle in the elements. As Vileda saw fit to using mounting slots rather than just holes, I may just slip it off and stick it inside the back door when not in use and cross my fingers.

Been trying not to buy one because of the reliability reports despite being exactly what I'm after but for this price I'll blame it on others user error. Cheers OP.

I felt similar having read reviews, but did buy it in the end. Been fine so far, no complaints or failures after several months of use

Any chance this is strong enough to get someone off a bike? Asking for a friend.

For all of those saying the bottom will break off, a real simple and worthwhile improvement is it screw a cleat (check toolstation) just underneath wherever you screw the line. Then tie the line off to the metal cleat instead. Lasts forever then

Always worth buying a product that you have to fix before it breaks. Sign of quality.

are there any retractable washing lines that don’t break?

I bought two of these over the years, very good value. For info, the price I paid is below

    April 2016: £9.30 (broke August 2022)
    August 2022: £10.23

Was close to a buy but reading recent comments and seeing their images… it’s not going to last. Shame as after one

If the plastic bit snaps off screw a metal hook into the wall and tie off round that problem solved!

Got this recently, both ends screwed into a wooden fence and holds well. £10 is normal price for this

I bought this a couple of months back and it is fine quality wise but I wished I had got a model a green or even grey line. The red is just too bright
