In this hand-drawn animated tale, elderly married couple Hilda (Peggy Ashcroft) and Jim Bloggs (John Mills) have their quiet, simple lives in the English countryside interrupted when they learn of an impending nuclear attack. Not completely understanding the gravity of their situation, Hilda and Jim react archaically and insufficiently after the attack -- and the film takes a dark turn as the radiation begins taking its toll on the unsuspecting couple.

Required viewing for those too young to remember the all pervading sense of doom that us 70s/80s kids experienced.

Yes but what does Rod Hull and his Pink Windmill have to do with this thread?

My little kids loved The Snowman so I'm sure they'll love this too.

Seriously, this is dark. Watched it the same night I watched Threads. Not the best night's sleep I've ever had.

One of the bleakest films I've ever seen. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again. Brilliant, just very hard to watch.

    Ooh Threads!
Even 40 odd years later I can still picture the fingures sticking out from under rubble on fire!

Wasn't my best night sleep either.

Back to When the Wind Blows; fantastic!

Such a powerful film. There's also a fantastic feature length doc on the disc that's well worth watching.

Great film, I hope it's not a prediction but there is a poker game going on at the moment and we are the chips. We could actually end up as crisps. Scary times are upon us, Threads is starting to come true.
