Don't bother, you can get 10% S&S anyway.
You'll be buying items you don't need like chocolate and toothpaste, just to save an extra quid.

For mixing, you're fine with the 80 proof.

But you can water down the 101 to basically get the same thing as the 80 proof, meaning you essentially get 'more' whiskey from the same size bottle in the case that they're the same price(which is almost never the case except for maybe this one rare occasion).

Otherwise, for normal drinking, I'd always recommend avoiding the 80 proof. It's just a far more boring version of 101 and almost definitely aged less.

Pick up another, I have a feeling alcohol is going to soon be taxed heavier, it’s managed to largely escape inflation unlike everything else. It will stay good for many years, if not indefinitely (unopened)

It wont impress a connoisseur necessarily, but most whiskey drinkers like having something more reasonable to drink on the regular, and even better if it's a bit 'different' like this. There's safer choices, but I'd bet a lot of people used to drinking scotch and whatnot wont have tried this before, so should be welcome.
