To purchase you need to call 0800 026 0329 as the ms store on the console is currently broken.

You might not be aware but you can grab a great deal from Microsoft Store, if you managed to get an xbox series X | S, you can extend the 1 year warranty to 3 years including accidental damage for just £39.

You can only do this within 45 days of delivery. So be aware of this for those waiting to open until Christmas you can upgrade now, but most likely too late at the end of December.

Important - You can only do this if you brought the console direct from Microsoft store.

Normally you do this on the console, but as per twitter below this is broken. So either grab Microsoft on live chat or give them a call on 0800 026 0329 , and request to buy the "Microsoft complete for xbox consoles" for £39 for 3 years.

I think I read this covers 3 controller replacements, so even if you used this once, its cheaper than buying a new controller in the 3 year time period.

Your excess will be more that £39

This is my first xbox, had PlayStation since the original. But I recall the red ring of death my friends talked about in school (wow that was along time ago) but for £39 it's a bargain compared to most and obviously it comes with accidental cover as well.

I don't understand why it's 1 year in the UK and 2 years in the EU. People …I don't understand why it's 1 year in the UK and 2 years in the EU. People keep quoting eu law about a min 2 year warranty but actually it's a 2 year return to supplier, which we in the UK get upto 6 years under consumer rights.

UK consumer law makes it longer than 1 year. If you spend a large amount of money on an electrical item that only lasted 13 months(example) , you could argue that it didn't last a reasonable amount of time for the price you paid. (edited)

Bought this for the Xbox x. Game wanted I think £59 for one extra year. By chance chatted to MS who did an additional 3 years after the 12 months for £39. Great buy and worth it.

Or the conspiracy would be that they're built brilliantly, Microsoft trying to make money out of customers thinking otherwise (edited)

Correct, as per screenshot in description its increasing 1 year warranty to 3 years.

But, this also adds accidental damage so if you drop it in 900 days time when moving it to a new room you can get a brand new one sent out.

I always wanted to highlight you only have 45 days to purchase as per the description so those that got them on release day and stored until Xmas might be too late to buy it unless they hear about it sooner.

I generally say no to extra warranty but £39 for 3 years on a £450 device seemed sound given the reputation for xboxs breaking. (edited)

I wish people would stop peddling this “2 year warranty” myth.

David Cameron opted us out of this, instead, we get 1 year, with the added option of being able to take the retailer to court for up to 6 years in the event of a perceived premature failure.

What this means, is that it’s the owner’s responsibility to get an independent report done on the item and then log a claim via the .gov website to be heard by a judge.

    Again, it’s a claim, not a right.

It’s called the Consumer Rights Act, and it replaced the Sale of Goods act.

And it does. Unfortunately not in the UK or EIRE. The whole EU region is 2 years standard warranty regardles of which retailer you have purchased it from. 🤷 (edited)

like to show me where It says 2 years warranty on MS site . …like to show me where It says 2 years warranty on MS site . DurationWithout prejudice to any legal (statutory) rights to which you may be entitled under your local law, this Warranty lasts for one year from the date of original purchase from Microsoft or an authorized retailer or reseller, unless a different time appears below:

Don’t care what Microsoft or any other company says it’s the law in the U.K. simple as that.

EU law also stipulates that you must give the consumer a minimum 2-year guarantee (legal guarantee) as a protection against faulty goods, or goods that don't look or work as advertised. In some countries national law may require you to provide longer guarantees.

    europa.eu/youreurope/business/dealing-with-customers/consumer-contracts-guarantees/consumer-guarantees/indexamp_en.htm

As some have said on here you can even go to 6 years. I know my rights it’s a shame you don’t

Apple tried this once on me after the 1 year and I said by eu Law I have 2 years and suddenly replaced the faulty product (edited)
  24. deleted2063377's avatar
Most people saying by law you're entitled to this and that, blah blah blah, have clearly never gone through the process to actually get something replaced or fixed after a year or so. Regardless of your rights, spending weeks and weeks without something just to have the satisfaction of getting something done by law simply isn't worth the time. Missing the time spent and hassle alone is worth the £39, your £450 console is covered against anything, plus you get two controller replacements over three years! Stick drift anyone? It's a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Cheeky sods have recently updated the terms literally days ago to make it only ONE replacement/claim for an xbox console. If you read the previous terms which i read a week ago (from May 2018) which was the valid terms until now it says TWO replacements.

Now in the new terms dated NOV 16th 2020, this has been amended to specifically to say just one replacement xbox.....

My thoughts exactly. You've already paid for the machine, if it's faulty within 3 years of purchase it's not fit for purpose and you can make MS replace. Paying this just eases the hit for them if it does happen.
  33. codjerlfc's avatar
Is it just me or does anyone else find it amazing that there's a massive debate about console reliability just months after their release? It can only be fans of the opposing consoles trying to smear the other console, surely?!

    £39 for three years.
    £13 a year
    ... About a £1 a month.
Shocking value for extra warranty and accident cover?

Depends on the excess, but £1 a month to keep my no claims on my house insurance is worth it imo.

At the time the deal was posted I made it clear it was for Microsoft only orders. I didn't even know about the fine print I found later but everyone is getting told the same regardless. It's a shame you can't try to buy it on the console like you are meant to be. You can see it in the ms store if you type in "complete" but it won't let anyone buy it.
  36. sonofgojira's avatar
would be nice if I could get hold of one.

You can only do this though if you bought your console from Microsoft direct. I tried to add it last week and was told no it was not possible as I did not buy from them. (edited)

Whether we like it or not, the majority of electrical items come with just 1yr warranty in the UK, regardless of purchase price. I think it is wrong, but free repair outside of the 1yr warranty will likely only happen when an inherent fault is proven and/or on a recall for safety concerns.

£20 a year for extra peace of mind will be worthwhile to some people for an item that costs £450.
