I'm after something with a viewing screen for my holiday.

bang for buck this camera is amazing value and produces great footage, you can use the app on your phone to see what the cameras is looking at which while not perfect does work surprisingly well.

I use mine all the time for both video and photos and it produces some fantastic results considering how cheap it is. I'd honest say for £34 with a water proof case its a steal '
if you stick with the YI brand personally i would avoid the yi discovery ( next in price range) its got a lot of issues , but the Yi lite ( around £80) is another fantastic camera and has the screen on the back (edited)

The screen on an action camera isn't that important really, having owned ones with and without. The gopro sessions for example cost hundreds and have no screen.

The main benefit of the screen is for changing settings easily and potentially quick playback review - but both are also possible via app. When in use, an action camera is usually strapped to something so the screen isn't needed (e.g. handlebars, helmet, extension pole, gimbal, windscreen).

can you view on phone without wifi i.e when you're out and about and want to see what it's recording?

    Not bad deal but ...
I bought one two weeks ago for the same price but unfortunately no viewing screen is a deal breaker and the phone app is not reliable on the move.
Be sure you are happy with this before you buy it.

Just to let people know, while this action camera is better than many others, it still uses interpolation for all the "high framerate" modes.

1920x1080p60 is 1536x1152p60 interpolated; 1280x720p120 is 1536x576p120 interpolated; 848x480p240 is 1536x384p240 interpolated. The interpolation used isn't a very good one either and leads to a blurry video.

All sub-maximum framerates use a higher resolution which is downsampled.

This leads to all high framerate modes being noticeably blurrier then the sub-maximum framerate modes even while using 50mbps bitrates.

Do they do a good 4k version with screen?

Yi have two proper 4k models the yi 4k ( around £160 on amazon and yi 4k+ ££250 odd) there's usually offers on most yi products for additional items discounts)

while the yi lite does claim to do 4k its only at 20 fps ( with a firmware upgrade) stock its 15 fps which is basically pointless and not really usable even at 20 fps if you want good footage

Just reminded me, I got this camera in November and have never opened it! Had just got back from a holiday so didn't need it, could do with a waterproof case though.

EDIT: Wow, I only paid £20!

In that thread (assuming this is the same camera?) someone mentions spare batteries and a remote as well:

I bought the ee cam last year that came with a viewing screen on a watch.
Never tried it yet so might just use that instead for my hols.
Also came with a waterproof case.

On my cheapo one (no idea what make, but similar spec) it has it's own wifi. You connect to it and then can view.

As long as you're not looking for 4k footage, yes. I got some great snowboarding footage with this attached to my helmet at 1080p30.

Yes absolutely. Image quality is better than the '4k' camera at similar price 100%

The image quality on this will be miles better than the EE one. The watch is a complete gimmick.

Should be,i have it recording at 2K 30fps handle bar mounted on my road bike and get excellent video quality
only very rough road surfaces upset it,you'd probably get better results kayaking.

General use and underwater while in holiday. You will always need to use your phone to adjust the camera settings check the memory card space, picture and videos.

So just for awareness, it's easier than you might think without the screen. You can switch between photo and video using a button, and whatever settings you preset remain. You'll also never use a memory card up on a single charge assuming you go for 32gb plus. Battery also visible via the power led.

It's not very handy for changing settings such as FPS or quick playback though, both requiring the app.

If your budget stretches a bit further to something like the Yi Lite, that would be better. But if you want to keep at this price point, I would certainly recommend this over the generic cams frequently seen at this price.

Can I use a standard gopro filter with this does anyone know? How does it stack up against a Gopro 4? Or even the other (confusing number of) yi cameras?

can anyone advise on either a cycle helmet mount or handlebar mount for this?

How would this compare to the GoPro session5.?
I know its in a different price league. But is the quality difference just as big?
Would YI 4k lite be comparable to session?

I'm interested in 1080p vide for cycling
