VAT is charged at the point of sale for items up to £135 with nothing further to pay on delivery. Above that amount, VAT is not included and you will have to pay it if the parcel is caught at Customs (the rules says you, as the importer, are required to declare voluntarily and pay, but no one does), apart from the fee the delivery provider will charge for processing & paying it on your behalf. I have made 3 high value orders in the last couple of months and none were caught, but it is purely luck.

Make sure your cost is below the import threshold

Is Import threshold is less than 135 pound worth of stuff from china?
