You can already have other browsers on your iPhone. They're just opening it up a little more and giving users a choice.

They do and they don't, Apple forced them all to use WebKit, the underpinings to Safari.

Apple are going to put every hurdle imaginable in the way of developers taking advantage of this and take advantage of any loophole they can.

Willing to bet that for apps that wouldn't be allowed on the app store, that they're also going to refuse to review them "to protect their staff".

Why would Apple review apps that are not available through their store?

The UK (that hasn't yet come up with an answer to the absurd cookie consent situation) will instantly fall in line, out of embarrassment for not having thought of it first.

Never mind legal objections, Apple will probably lock down the API. Yes there's an alternative app store. Trouble is, no-one can develop code for it!

Anyway here are examples of apps that Apple's own app store won't allow:

    1. A WiFi analyser app that shows which channels the local 2.4 and 5 GHz WiFis are using, so you can adjust your router.

    2. A VPN app with split tunneling, that is, certain apps will automatically use the VPN and others won't.
