What to do with VHS tapes and equipment?

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do with a heap of VHS video tapes (not sure how many but probably well over 100, all in good condition, mainly Disney and kids films, some teen stuff - Jackass, American Pie type stuff, and a few others such as Titanic, etc.); also 2 VHS video players/recorders - one is well used but in good condition and the other is brand new and never used.
I have no idea what to do with them. They seem too good to bin but I offered then to local children's hospital and they already have integrated DVD players in their tv's and don't have space.
Selling on eBay doesn't seem to be viable as those I have seen listed aren't selling well, and the one local charity shop I checked is no longer accepting VHS.
I don't necessarily want anything for them (although that would be nice) but I would like them to go to good use if possible.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm sure you'll find a charity shop that will take them off your hand.

That's what my other half said...I'm loathe to do that, they cost me a fortune when I bought them new! I'm sure there are kids out there who don't have anything like this, just wish I knew somebody who could use.

The one I checked was a small local charity, I don't know about the national ones.

    A local hospital?

    Freecycle?

Wait for a free listing weekend on Ebay (should be next weekend) put everything up for £1 collection only (specify it must be collection only and you will not be around if the buyer wants to use their own courier). You may not make anything but it should save you the hassle of running around trying to get rid of them. Every charity shop i know do not take VHS because there just isn't the money for the space they take.

freecycle, kids vids always get taken on ours.

Wait until Spring and then Car Boot them.

My one and only attempt at doing a car boot sale was a total disaster! I think I did it all wrong because I ended up cold, tired, hungry, desperate to go to the loo, and also out of pocket!
I have total admiration for those who succeed at boot sales - don't know if I would be brave enough to try again...oO

What about a homeless charity? They may be able to give them to someone, or maybe the domestic violence refuge?

Sorry to hear that, I took a load of old rubbish ( to me ) out of my shed and garage and came home over £200 in pocket.

Sorry Car Boots didn't work out for you.

I decided to sell some pristine children's clothes and things like once-used handbags, accessories and household items. They were all in fantastic condition and my two teenagers offered to help me.
When we had to get up at an ungodly hour on a cold, dark Sunday morning they had a rapid change of heart so I ended up going myself. It cost more than I thought to get in, I (as a newbie) was given a pitch right at the back and was in between 2 professional car-booters.
I was besieged by large families whose only grasp of the English language was to ask for everything for 10p, which I refused to sell for. My clothes rail collapsed and broke, I couldn't leave my stall to go to the loo, I couldn't even get a coffee (after not having time for breakfast), I was frozen, and I ended up coming home with almost as much as I took.

Cost; £12 entry, plus petrol, plus cost of washing and ironing everything before boot sale.
    Sales; £5.50
Lost; £6.50 plus, as well as more petrol to take everything to the charity shop the following day!

    Not my finest hour...

charging too much by the sounds of it, at car boot everything is between £1 - £10 and at the end of the day you really cut your prices.

our local womens hostel for teenage mums was very happy when we dropped ours off, dvds get stolen, videos dont!!

I would say your local freecycle too. Videos always seem to go quickly on mine too, and you know they're going to a good new home.

Why would a homeless person want a VHS tape?

If you're based in Edinburgh, I've a friend who'd happily take them off your hands. He steadfastly refuses to join the modern world of PVRs, so he still records everything to VHS, and he records that much that (he's kinda OCD) he's constantly running short. If you are around Edinburgh, drop me a PM and we could maybe get something arranged.

mine all went on freegle we have a few people locally who have a video and no dvd player so still use them x

Do we think the old disney films on VHS, in 50years will be worth something?

    Likely or unlikely?

they may be worth something but in fifty years £20 is going to be worth even less than it is now so no in real terms i doubt it

Hospitals definitely would not take anything like this. Majority of kids have their own gadgets / computers and for those that don't, computer equipment is locked but available most of the time.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, hopefully I will find a good home for them - I couldn't bear to send Cinderella, Bambi and all the rest to a certain death at the dump...:p

I imagine they will have disintegrated by then.
