GAME instore trade in news!!!

Hi all. Just been into GAME with a **** load of games to trade in for store credit (naturally getting them to price match cex on every item possible as normal).

The girl behind the till told me that as of Monday GAME are no longer doing price matching and whatever price is on their app is what you will be given. So if you are getting rid of all that Wii u stuff in prep for the Nintendo Switch then do it now!!! Makes all the difference, I just got £110 of credit for stuff I no longer play and would struggle to sell on my own. If I had waited til after Monday I would have got barley 65 quid!!!

People need to stop giving Game business so the old dinasaur can die already. Even parents who don't know any better would be easier for them to order online and get free delivery as well as cheaper prices from better retailers.

Anyone have the game app and noticed when you try to sign in it gives you many third party options to sign in with example Facebook, Twitter, steam, Gmail but what about my game account. No option to use game login details oO

I'd have taken the £32 cash from CEX rather than the £38 credit from GAME … I'd have taken the £32 cash from CEX rather than the £38 credit from GAME and then made my purchase in Tesco or Asda.

    That is what I did!

The crazy part about their regular and loyal customers, is that it's not dumb parents sent there by their kids, it's youth in their late teens and early 20's!

Look at the social media feeds on Twitter and Facebook, 99% of people responding or positively interacting with game are goths and emo's in those age brackets. It's actually quite worrying how brainwashed they are by it all. I mean they really think Game is really great oO

As an example Game announced pre orders for the new Amiibo's, at the usual inflated prices game charge. But still people are lapping it up, heaping praise on gamr for giving them the opportunity to be totally ripped off.

Don't even start me on the people who turn up to midnight launches oO

Visited other game stores that try and take the mick with prices and game conditions, perhaps your local is trying it on. Will wait until Monday to see what the crack is. Had 2x £5 vouchers to be used in Feb so far this week, will work a treat for sniper elite 4

or maybe some stores decide to tell customers and some don't. it's only a matter of time before game stop price matching, grainger price match but add 10p on top of the total not per item which us a joke.

Yeah I got told this last week - apparently they're going to be increasing all their trade in prices so that way they've simply got the best price already, rather than having people come in with other prices for them to match.

    Hi Sean,

I can confirm that stores in the North West and South east will no longer be participating in "We won't be beaten in price".

This is a trail at the moment however it 's indefinite.

If the prices arnt increased dramatically people will choose to trade them in elsewhere. my local cash converters even offers more than Game do!

Their loss. No one is going to trade a game in at their ridiculous trade-in prices & then buy a game off them for £50. (_;)

I can't say I'm surprised because it was only a matter of time before they stopped price matching with cex considering the massive trade price difference between the stores.

Also considering Game do have a lot of 3 for 2, bogohp deals etc where as cex don't have anything like that they were always likely to drop the price match at some point.

I would definitely get those trades done ASAP with Game if you want the store credit.

Only ever traded in with GAME (using price match) due to being able to use the credit online. But I won't be using them anymore if they don't improve trade in prices (RE7 only worth £22 with them) while CEX give £32 cash. Grainger Games which is only 2 doors from my local GAME only give £25 cash for RE7 but at least they will price match CEX.

To keep things on topic. I traded in as usual in 2 London stores today without problems.

I even mentioned that price match + 1 might be ending and the manager pretty much laughed at me both times.

I would be tempted but finally new house has room for a decent man cave so all the consoles will be getting setup later in the year.

My local game keeps changing their rules on price matching, a few months ago I was told 'we don't mind doing one or two things but if it's loads you need to print it off and bring it in' then it went to we won't match unless you bring a print out in, whether it's 1 thing or 10

Like others have said, people will vote with their feet and go to other places instead, they'll soon change their tune once their pre owned stock supplies decrease

I'm sure cex will be seeing an upsurge of tradeins and I wonder how much this will effect game's new release sales. Prob see the exclusive editions that they normally get at launch of new releases start to disappear due to sell through dropping cos everyone will be going elsewhere
  23. deleted992257's avatar
Thanks for the heads up. My local game is on the same street as a cex and a grainger so I've made plenty out of their price beating promise in the past

The amount of old Ps3 & Xbox360 games they have in stock, must be getting silly now. I often wonder how they sell some of stuff.

Get rid of your credit ASAP. I sense an impending receivership.

I'm not surprised at this point. If they do keep their same trade in rates without price match, then they will have a hard time with customers, majority of trade in were price matched back when I worked there. Hopefully they just start giving more credit, easier than having to spend an hour comparing prices at the till and then deal with the manager changing policies all of a sudden.

    As others have commented, ...Trail?

Meanwhile, at the sheep dog trials, three were found guilty.

Also, "We won't be beaten on price" is not a valid claim without three exclamation points, it seems.

Seriously, perhaps GAME have enough pre-owned stock at present to not want to take any more.

If CeX take all their business, the policy will soon be reversed, or GAME will go into administration again. Or both.
  34. Oddball501's avatar
Not a very smart move from Game. Nearly every new release they sell can be found cheaper elsewhere so the trade-in price match was one of the very few enticements to buy from them. A quid or two difference to CeX wouldn't be the end of the world (in the case of buying new from Game vs used from CeX) but as others have said comparatively their trade-in prices are shocking at times. Without a decent trade-in price I would much rather trade to CeX in exchange for other products and buy my new game releases elsewhere (for DLC, bonuses etc).
  35. Giiibbs's avatar
Yeah just went in and asked. From Monday they'll no longer price match but have more competitive prices than before. The old games will still be like 20p and they won't increase those
  36. Mandz27's avatar
I simply won't trade in my games with them unless they are the better priced competitor ...somehow I fail to see that happening though, trip to game tomorrow to get rid.

love how people do not read facts that others (mcpoo) write. I love how people on here jump on the band wagon with negativity but yet probably have purchases from game on their reward cards within the last week hahaha
  39. deleted1524513's avatar
it's business at the end of the day. I can probably see them increasing their trade in prices so yes, they do have the best prices and also would probably save alot of time having to scan a game, search for the price on cex website, change the price and then repeat for 50 other 360 games. I bet it's p***ed most off when there is someone in front of you in the queues that have a console, acc's and 2 bags full of games to trade in and that want to price match and haven't even bothered to provide proof of the price match.
