Can you cut the chip out of the card for contactless?

I drilled a hole in corner of card to deactivate contact.. The whole card is the antenna so a hole in any corner with stop it working. Think its more than a chip. Its a antenna as well

OP you tried Google but found no info

If you can carefully cut out the wiggly wires & chip without damaging them, then yeah why not! Just get a surgeon to do it though.

Don't use main bank for the purpose, but honesltly anything over 30£ nowasays i'm most likely buying online.

Never carry my card with me as it is (google pay)

I think, could be wrong, that for every 30 contactless you need 1 chip and PIN.

Might be a myth though

I've never entered a pin and used for years

We've got cards with at least 6 different banks and after a number of transactions it wants a pin.
I'm not even considering the credit cards, which are the same.

Also, you have to use the pin at least one first time before you can use contactless.

if the purpose is to take the ability to do contactless and use it elsewhere - no
if the purpose is to take away the ability to do contactless then yes - as wayners says there is a coil of wire you interrupt by cutting and so it cant work after
if you do it right you can still use normally chip/pin atms etc

Nope.. Just don't drill one there.. One hole will do the job in any corner (edited)

Yes.. Works fine with pin number. The problem I had was I have 2 cards that look the same... Private and business and I kept tapping Nfc with the wrong one, as its to easy so by disabling Nfc by drilling a hole in one corner I stopped my problem. I later did all 4 corners so I can identify the card.. Some nip a small bit off the corner to break the antenna. I'm not worried about the Nfc scares though as all my other cards work fine (different colours and banks) (edited)

If you use card 5+ times for contactless in a day it will ask for a pin I read.. Never happened to me yet though. (edited)

My last debit card got cracked and the chip then fell out when I got struck on the leg on the pocket that my phone and wallet were in. My phone survived undamaged, probably because it's case has a very thin sheet of steel in the flap covering the screen.

I sellotaped the chip back in place and it worked in chip and pin card readers till I got a replacement, although I did have to be very careful not to lose the chip.

I never use contactless, but I'm pretty sure it would not have worked as I would expect there to be an antenna in the card as mentioned above, which would have been severed when the chip fell out. (edited)

Fair enough, not that scared either, they refund them most of the time, until it happens and i lose out i will take the convenience factor

Never take my card with me, always pay contactless, doubtful i;ve used it 5 times in a day so would not know,

in all years using never entered a pin, usually have monzo on google pay, so it's probs diffrent to a bank and card

All the banks have a different set up, some have a maximum number of contactless uses per day, some a number of days and some a total number of contactless payments without C&P.
Worst bit is, even their staff dont know exactly what their bank limit is.

I went over a year without using C&P before my card was declined, thought my account had been hacked, even the bank security staff couldnt tell me what was wrong; it was a friend who suggested trying the C&P.

Bank systems are stupid; if I tell my bank I am going to a certain country between certain dates, they inevitably block my cards; if I DONT tell them, my cards arent blocked.

I wandered around SE Asia for 6 months once, withdrawing around £7,000 in total, in £500 lumps; not a peep from them.

Even if it does work, you might encounter retailer problems, rather than technical ones.

If you want contactless without card just use apple or google pay. You can use with phone or watch....
