It's a good toy but just be aware Anki have gone bust so if you buy it I would suggest getting two cheap android devices and download the software and disable updates. One of their products (Jibo) has already lost a lot of functionality hopefully another company continues their endeavours more info here in case you were planning this for an Xmas present.

Just bought it from Argos and going to be taking it back as one of the cars does not charge and keeps disconnecting. Second car is ok. Pointless with one functional car though .

I have spent a fortune on this kit (pretty much all the vehicles) since it's launch and my boys love it. I've played it with them and there is a lot to do it as the levelling up for unlocking weapons and power ups adds extra incentive to play.

I'm disappointed they have gone bust but the app has been updated a lot since launch and is pretty good now. In terms of connecting phones and tablets check their compatibility list - the higher end the device you have the more chance you have of it working perfectly.

My youngest has it working on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and it can have trouble hosting matches but does work eventually where as if I play on my Note 8 or ipad it works a lot better.

I'm tempted to buy this just for the extra track to add to the existing setup.

    At £39.99 it's a great toy! (edited)

Unsure wether to buy this?? Could the app stop any day?

Nope once downloaded it's there on your device and remains in your library in the app store. This doesn't require any web access to play and isn't connected to online servers so once you have it installed on your devices it's there to stay. The app just won't get any updates going forward. It’s funny that people are arguing whether kids nowadays would like this, when this toy is a perfect example of why kids today, are the way they are (a toy that requires a mobile phone or tablet for each kid to play).

Yes you can. I have the starter kit and also the Fast and Furious set and they work fine together. You can also buy the jump and crossover separately. Good fun but have trouble each time linking to devices.

Fast and furious edition at £89 - do I go for that instead?!

You would be best not going with any Anki products - they have closed down. In a year you won’t be able to download the apps from the stores anymore as it costs money to keep a developer account and with the company not existing then you effectively have a dead brick on your hands and the apps will disappear

If you are playing with 2 starter kits can you use all 4 cars in the track …If you are playing with 2 starter kits can you use all 4 cars in the track at the same time considering they are duplicates?

    Response from Anki customer service:
"I'm really happy to tell you that you can combine two Starter Kits together.
You can race with the same kind of Super car at the same time either in Open Play mode or Tournament. The cars will have different colors Led lights to identify each player. This color will match the hexagonal mark on the app when the cars are chosen at the begging of the match.
You can also use several Starter Kits to extend the track as you please. When you do so, you can only use one Start/Finish track piece. By doing this you add extra fun to the game and allow extra possibilities in the track construction lay out.
All the Starter Kits come with the same cars (SKULL and GROUNDSHOCK). You can always purchase extra cars if you wish."

Can't you just rip the app using APK extractor and save them?

I'm going to get this to play with my son. I'm sure I saw this on apple's keynote. It looked cool but I forgot all about it.

I would think so although the jump kit adds an extra dimension.... Hopefully the f and f kit will come down too as that offers a lot more track variations. There won't be much variation with the starter kit.

Absolutely. You can buy add on sets but to be honest buying 2 of these is a better and cheaper option to make a really big track. (edited)

  38. gingertips's avatar
Easy to setup and use. None of the issues you get with scaletrix because it's not as complicated but also nowhere near as much fun longer term. In that sense it's a lot of fun to get up and running particularly for younger kids because it's easy to get started on it and a lot cheaper than scaletrix. Shame they went bust. Was it their robot that caused their demise? (edited)
