There was speculation in a previous post that they'll all be De Agostini reissues, and that's turned out to be correct (for me at least). Six of the records I received were in the image they used for the deal. Here's the complete list of what I got:

    Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Drum Suite
Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
Duke Ellington, Charlie Mingus and Max Roach - Money Jungle
    Bill Evans - Trio 64
Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto
    Dexter Gordon - Go
Charlie Haden - Liberation Music Orchestra
Max Roach Plus Four - Quiet As It's Kept
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil

That's lots of big names, so assuming the pressings are decent then that's an amazing haul for £30. The packaging was rubbish and coming open, but thankfully no damage to the sleeves.

Just read some comments elsewhere that these may be leftovers/overstocks from the DeAgostini magazine collection "Jazz at 33rpm" you could get in UK newsagents a few years back. All the records in the promo image were in that collection. Ran for 70 issues, the pressings were supposedly pretty good.

Am I missing something? Said the code expired in June?

There was nothing else in the box, so no - unless the booklets are sealed …There was nothing else in the box, so no - unless the booklets are sealed inside the sleeve (I haven't opened any yet).

They come separate from the sealed records. Had a couple of the series from eBay that come without so seems they destroy them for any overstock. Shame as they give some good background on the album & recording, but can't complain at £3 each!

They are here, no issues with packaging and the vinyls look good. I'll give them a spin over the weekend. Thanks OP.

Just received, thanks OP. Only one I owned already. Got Blue and Sentimental by Ike Quebec and Mingus, Mingus Ah Um which I've been after so 'niiiiiiicccccccccceeeeee
  13. AntoneloSheytanov's avatar
    My list is:

Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Max Roach‎– Money Jungle
    Getz / Gilberto
    Sonny Rollins - The Bridge
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
    Dexter Gordon - Go
Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - Ella and Louis
Ornette Coleman‎– New York Is Now!
Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch!
Sonny Rollins ‎– Original Music From The Score "Alfie"
    Cannonball Adderley ‎– Somethin' Else

The box they were shipped in is destined not to protect them but lucky enough just one LP has one slightly bent corner. They are sealed.42383696-JhSjB.jpg42383696-QME5i.jpg

Got some of the same records a lot of people are getting. Classics though …Got some of the same records a lot of people are getting. Classics though and I'm stoked to listen. The labels seem to be all Blue Note or Verve, which is promising, and there's a small silver sticker on the back of the LPs that I think might mean they were from the Diagostini collection. Will jump on this sort of thing if it happens again. As someone else has said I'm jealous of the people getting Bill Evans. That's the guy who got me thinking "Hmm maybe I do like jazz" a couple of years ago when Iggy Pop played him on 6 Music.Edit: So I'm on discogs trying to find the first record in the stack - Mingus Ah Um - that others have had. Can't find this version. Maybe it's not listed? It's a Columbia release "under license to De Agostini".

Easiest way to find them is Jazz At 33 1/3 Series page.

Got 5 sets myself hoping to fill what I already had, but ended up with a lot of duplicates with the selection being limited.

If anyone is interested in trading I've got duplicates of the below. Looking to trade for pretty much anything else in the series, aside from about 10 titles which I got during the series running - let me know what you have!

    Out To Lunch
    Money Jungle
    Getz / Gilberto
    Somethin' Else
    Nows The Time
    Speak No Evil
    Liberation Music Orchestra
    Go!
    Mingus Ah Um
    Ella & Lois (unsealed)
    Soul Station
    Alfie (unsealed)
    CB At Newport (edited)

I also bought two sets and have some duplicates. Would you be interested in trading my

    Alfie - Sonny Rollins
Ella & Louis - Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong

    For your

Music Liberation Orchestra - Charlie Haden
Speak No Evil - Wayne Shorter

Let me know what you think!

Mine finally came in, Hermes to Ireland takes an age. Somewhat same list as everyone else was getting, would have liked some of the Ornette Coleman though.

Duke Ellington • Charlie Mingus • Max Roach - Money Jungle
Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch!
Stan Getz / João Gilberto - Getz / Gilberto
    Cannonball Adderley - Somethin' Else
Wayne Shorter - Speak No Evil
Charlie Parker - Now's The Time
Charlie Haden - Liberation Music Orchestra
    Dexter Gordon - Go!
Charles Mingus - Mingus Ah Um
    Joe Henderson - Page One
  17. raven211's avatar
    Mine arrived today, all sealed.
No new surprises here except for Ray Brown/Milt Jackson "Much in common" and McCoy Tyner "The real McCoy".

There's a view that all vinyl is valuable, it isn't but most of those in the pic would be at least 5-10 in a charity shop.
  26. walrusrage's avatar
And that's if you can find them, which these days seems to be a rarity! Not to mention what condition they are in.
  27. harveyadam's avatar
Every album on the picture is a classic (I already have two of them) but if it’s a lucky dip then at the price it’s worth a punt. Ordered and heat added. Never bought from Zavvi before - trust they’re good if they’ve been around for a while...
  28. cfowler's avatar
Generally I've found Zavvi ok. The Hut Group (parent company) have been terrible at returns on some of the other group members but I've never needed to return anything to Zavvi.

Just as a word of warning these pressings are likely going to be the "grey market" labels from Eastern Europe like Vinology/DOL, Audio Clarity, Waxtime etc. All these records have had their copyright expire in Europe so they press them for as cheap as possible, using crappy sources (likely CD) and definitely not the master tapes or "remastered".

You can get pretty big name albums for really cheap in HMV or Fopp on these labels (like £8 a record), I have a few. Might still be worth it for the volime of records but they don't sound great at all.

Or given that the price used to be £200 they might a proper sounding pressings and that is just a price glitch. In which case we might get a cancellation emails soon.

For a long time now, just about all charity shops have someone who does the rounds locally pricing records and skimming off the best stuff. I've met my local guy - he takes all the Brian Jones-era Stones records I used to collect. Respected jazz albums wont be going for a quid. Johnny Mathis and Ray Conniff albums will be.
  33. Goopster's avatar
Well worth ordering as a gamble at this price - Thanks OP!

The one thing you need to hope with Zavvi is that they package them well. I've had a lot of the limited movie soundtracks and coloured vinyl they did some time back sent in JIFFY BAGS. A £30+ a pop, I stopped ordering from them as a result, as every sleeve was arriving with really bad creases and dings. Their Customer Service aren't the easiest to deal with when it comes to returning stuff either.

That being said, I'm hoping they would send 10 in a box, plus i'm still a sucker for a good deal so I will take the chance.

These are bought in mass quantities on the cheap from partwork places like Eaglemoss and DeAgostini. They sell loads of figures, statues, busts and books cheap. This is just another of those. They will return.

Ahh, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I didn’t take the time to read why it was discounted so heftily and just assumed that it was an error. I am now aware that it was for their birthday celebrations.
