sorted byYou are. A Grand Seiko!
I must be missing something.
Neither have I because I haven't got a clue. But if I had £5k & wanted to buy a watch a Seiko wouldn't even come into my mind let alone get onto a possible list.
Not at all. As an M5 is a heavily modded 5 series. Same underpinnings, chassis etc.
A Grand Seiko has literally nothing in common with a Seiko, aside from the same parent company. The LFA example was a better one, in car terms
Those that say they are better than Rolex in some respects are underplaying it. Grand Seiko is better than Rolex in EVERY respect, except brand recognition. It's not even close - in quality terms, it's like comparing a Bugatti (GS) to an Audi (Rolex). I say this as an owner of both brands - the GS gets alot more time on the wrist precisely because it flies under the radar of your average joe.
Now find me a deal on the SBGJ237! I am waiting to order one (edited)
Which is why Skoda proudly carry their name and hide any VW connections under the bonnet - they don't want their brand tarnished
I was due to travel to Japan again last year and my intention was to buy one there. You can literally see all of them on view. The finish on them is quite stunning.
Only the Japanese could come up with this concept and deliver it perfectly
I don’t think it’s fair comparing a GS to a Nissan. It’s superior in just about every way to most watches. I wouldn’t buy one for the money but appreciate the workmanship and design.
It’s not Seiko, it’s Grand Seiko. Different department 😜
If you buy your watches because of the name on the badge, rather than for the engineering excellent and the superb quality of finish, then you're right, a Grand Seiko is not for you.
All is not lost! I know a few people who own both Rolex and Grand Seiko and love them equally 😜
I think most watch enthusiasts would disagree with you here as your decision would only be guided by brand snobbery and not the quality of the underlying product. Also Seiko has a very high reputation in the watch community. Their history, quality and innovation are almost unparalleled. Almost every serious collector of watches will have one or two, particularly the vintage pieces.
I just can't be bothered with the bother of purchasing a Rolex any more.
I have it on a rubber one sometimes....
That classic misaligned bezel.
Actually nothing at all like Rolex. But better and also worse in different aspects.
Better finishing (both externally and movement) and better dial work.
Worse bracelets and generally thick cases, so less comfortable.
Me too. In fact the Snowflake is my only Grand Seiko
That was great, thanks!
I never appreciated how special the Grand Seiko was from an engineering perspective beyond their incredible finish.
It's not a Seiko, It's a Grand Seiko. Different factories entirely. "watch people," think very highly of the brand. They are made to a higher standard that Rolex or Omega.
Cos you're a tart and care more about what people think of you.
Watch enthusiasts appreciate that a Seiko and a Grand Seiko watch are from the same stable, albeit they are worlds apart. Much in the same way that car enthusiasts know that a Skoda and Lamborghini are from the same stable, but markedly different beasts (edited)
Rolex is always your best bet for investment, especially if you can get one new at retail price, but it'd be easier getting blood out of a stone. Certain Grand Seiko models can be decent investments, mainly the rare limited editions with very sought after dials. I'd never usually advise buying a watch to invest though, 9 times out of 10 you're likely to lose money. (edited)
