Bit sceptical this will be any good to be honest.

I'm currently studying for this exam and the course I'm using is 50 hours long and filled with demo lessons and examples etc. Heck, the section on S3 was longer than this entire course.

I'm not saying that it won't be worth getting, it's free after all, but, I expect you will need to do a heck of a lot more study to get ready for the exam as I really doubt this will be enough to get you ready. (edited)

Tend to agree. I passed the associate dev and artchitect exams with ease, but then I went in with 10 years of professional dev experience and a couple of years of working off an on with AWS. I used A Cloud Guru to fill in the gaps - i'd recommend them over a Udemy course any day.

I would say without *some* prior IT experience you're likely to struggle with a course this limited (although the exam is multiple choice so you might luck out ;-)). I'm not sure how advantageous having this cert would be anyway without that industry experience. No company with a future is going to hire you based on having an AWS associate (or even pro) cert alone. If you're just interested in AWS as a hobby, or to add a string to your bow in an unrelated field, i'd recommend a more practical course than one thats just about passing this exam. (edited)

I have no IT background and looking to get into the field. What course …I have no IT background and looking to get into the field. What course would you recommend?

It really depends on exactly what it is you want to do.

If you want to become a software developer who works with cloud technologies, then the fastest route (i.e. not college or university) would probably be a 12-16 week programming bootcamp. I know that CodeClan in Scotland are very well regarded. There will be similar intensive courses in England I'm sure. Any good school will help place you in a role at the end of the courseand ideally they'll have tech company partners that they work with. Once you've been through that, you'll certainly find picking up an AWS certification easier and more beneficial.

Is it possible to become a cloud architect without any prior dev or IT experience and just self teaching? Maybe, but getting your foot in the door will be harder. Again I would recommend a "A Cloud Guru" acloudguru.com/ (i don't work for them honest!!). acloudguru.com/course/aws-essentials - this course looks like a good place to start. It's not free but if you're serious about doing this as a career then I wouldn't skimp on the training materials. Their labs won't just give you great hands on experience, they'll allow you to see if this is something you actually enjoy and have a passion for.

I'm also a big fan of mentoring - meetamentor.co.uk/. You can get great advice from experienced IT professionals there and for free.

Hope that wall of text helps somewhat!

Edit: i will add that an IT/CS uni degree would give you the best possible foundation but i appreciate that that kind of commitment isn't an option for everyone. Despite what many will tell you, a degree is not essential and I've worked with CS grads who ended up being poor programmers. Some companies will insist on a degree though so not having one may limit your options, at least to begin with. Just something to keep in mind. (edited)

I would learn to code first, the last thing the industry needs is another devops or system engineer that doesn’t know how to code properly

Depending on what you are interested in, I would look into mastering a programming language first. A safe choice these days would be one of c#, Java, Python or Golang but it really depends on what kind of IT professional you want to become. (edited)

I got my SAA using just content on aws docs and their white papers. Some udemy courses are extremely bloated, such as the ACloudGuru ones. You don't need alot of practical knowledge for this cert.

There are not a lot of experienced AWS engineers out there.

Sorry I should have been clearer. I would imagine with networking experience you'll be fine. Also it sounds like the course you're on has much more of a practical element than this one. My answer was more aimed at people with no IT background. I'll edit my comment. (edited)

Material is limited for the pro courses on A Cloud Guru. I would go with Cantrill for the SA Pro and Maarek’s for the DevOps Pro.

All working for me, thanks. Was meant to take this course in September but the VUE Pearson software didn't like my Macintosh so never actually started the test. Recover a coupon to do the test in the next 12 month's so this course will come in handy for me soon. I have an Azure Exam next week though. 😋

Free is obviously great value - I'll check it out.

Personally though, having done this certification, I would be very surprised if a 5 hour course is sufficient to cover even the basic material at a level to understand or pass.
