Amazon's top of the range smart speaker with pretty decent sound... Easily on par with the Sonos 1 range but here quite cheaper.

I have one of these but at this price its now time for another to pair up for stereo/atmos sound.

Anyone who has bought Amazon refurbished before will basically know you are purchasing as good as new.

Shame no UK tidal support otherwise I'd have bought a few.
    Transmat's avatar
Yeah, it's annoying that it's still not supported in the UK. That said, it doesn't work too great where it is supported.

Is it possible to use these as speakers for tv if I bought 2?

If you output your TV from an amazon fire stick or cube then they will pair up wirelessly and give Dolby Atmos. You can still make these both work as dual speakers from another source i.e sky/virgin using an optical cable but you would need an additional optical /toslink splitter to make both work and then it probably wouldn't give a proper stereo sound. More a case of they both produce sound but not on a right/left channel as they would paired to amazon cube/stick

Has any one paired these in a large room - say either corner?

I have two of these and the sub. Very impressed with the sound and bass. Dolby atoms works well.

For anyone wanting to give these a good test it's worth playing (if you have the capicity to do so) Blinding Lights by The Weeknd or something a little lighter, Because you loved me by Celine Dion. Both these songs demonstrate rich deep bass and I always test with these on any new sound system. My whole room literally shakes when I play these through my soundbar... Love it

Can't get you outta my head by Kylie minogue. Despite dislinking the song, it offers a great range to test speakers.

I seriously want one of these. Are they on offer often?
    BarnSt0rmer's avatar
Not at this price, no. It's the only time I've ever seen them this cheap.

Buy now or wait for Amazon Day next week??
    Dazzler.Mclean's avatar
I think I'm going to buy now...knowing if they do offer anything better on Prime Day - I can either return and re-order or ask them to match any price difference!

I use fire TV, is it worth buying a sound bar for the TV or 2 of these and a sub? After the best home cinema sound but getting confused with all the options.. (edited)

Whilst waiting for my second Studio to arrive and not owning a sub I can safely say just the Studio on its own would not match my soundbar system. In fact I was quite let down by the sound on the Studio when I first got it but this was only because I was comparing it to my soundbar.

For me a high quality Atmos soundbar/sub woofer would be the way to go for the best home cinema sound unless you got in to the realms of separate amp and speakers hanging from everywhere!

Bear in mind though I paid £800 for my soundbar whereas this combo (2 studios/sub) would be less than half of that

Mine came last night and once paired up to the other the separation and spatial effect of the pairing is quite amazing. I was expecting the bass to feel a bit more thumpy but that's not the case.

Ive got my 2 separated by a good 6 metres (open plan lounge/Diner) and it doesn't seem to matter where I stand the surround/stereo effect is never lost, quite amazing.

I've decided to get another 2 to put in our garden room which currently houses a Yaber 1080p projector connected to a 8 year old Samsung 2.1 system. Using a 4k firestick in there I expect these speakers to take full advantage of Atmos and give a clearer thumper sound

I just had to buy another. So I could pair both with the sub
    doozeruk's avatar

I'm tempted on sub too, but I don't use fire tv so it wouldn't work as home cinema so probably not worth it for just music

    Bit of a bargain, this.

Anyone use this with Apple Music? If so, any good? I doubt there’s any functionality like ‘Spotify Link’ where I can control my music from the desktop?
    VengefulSeal's avatar
I have one and use Apple Music - the voice commands work well. Unfortunately, there is no Spotify Connect type option from Apple - Although I had massive issues in the past with that on a family setup, which is why I moved to Apple Music.

These are good, and I'm very tempted to get a 2nd to pair. The sound depth is way better than the smaller Echo devices. They are not that loud though. They're OK, but compared to my soundbar they just aren't loud enough - hence me wanting to get a 2nd to pair and hopefully increase the volume.

Each to own but lots of bass is not always a good thing.....very often less is more .....you'd be surprised how low some serious home cinema subwoofers are set ...

Lots of people always set the bass to high .....for example ...the 'thumpa thumpa you always hear from some boy racer half a mile away (edited)
    doozeruk's avatar

Yes everyone has different tastes for sound... But also 30 years ago I was that boy racer with thumping bass embarrassing now I look back!

Wow have both set up to my sub. Needed an update. All set up now playing fine.
Brilliant. They look as if they are brand spanking new.

Thanks ... Just ordered .. this will be my 3rd!
Got a pair linked in the sitting room for surround sound ... This will do nicely to replace my old Gen1 in the kitchen .. Great sound on these.

Thanks. Ordered 2 and a sub. It'll be interesting to see how they compare to my Sonos setup

I've got a pair of One's, a Beam and a Sub. You're probably right, but it'll do for the kitchen

Anyone comment on how this compares to either an echo 4 (not the dot) or Sonos One/SL?
    jellytotz's avatar
Yes I can mate (based on Play 1’s though). I have a Sonos Beam Gen 2 and 2 x Sonos Play 1 for my living room TV. I was quite miffed that Sonos wasn’t compatible with Echo devices in multi room audio, which I have around the house. So I bought 2x Echo Gen 4 “premium sound” to use in stereo mode downstairs. I liked them but definitely didn’t sound as good the 2 x Sonos Play 1 (I excluded the beam for a fair comparison). They sounded a bit narrow and bass didn’t feel natural, it felt like it was muffling the vocals - despite tweaking the EQ to try fix.

So I saw these Studios on offer and order two of them. A much improvement over the Echo Gen 4. Bass feels natural, more punchy, vocals are a lot clearer and they feel more ‘open’. Granted not ‘blow my mind these are so much better’ improvement, but definitely an improvement. Tough call to say but I’d say they are on par with the Play 1, if not better. I wouldn’t pay £189 for the Studio, but I’m very happy I got them at this price. Echo 4’s are being returned

how does this sound vs bose 500, or sonos one?
  28. Djb1981_Boother's avatar
I've heard they work well with apple music.

Have a Google before splashing the cash. But I'm pretty sure they work well with apple music and others

I've spent so much aaahhh. Just my mums hair dryer to go lol (edited)

I have one of these - v good it is too. It can also hear your commands through a closed door unlike some of my other Echo devices where we have to shout at them from a foot away!
    meridiusuk's avatar
so these pick you up better as i have dots and was thinking of going for the echos but might look into these but not to fuseed if the echos do that same job as these to hear you

I have this along with various other alexas. This is by far my favourite.
    Great sound

Question: doesnt it work only with fire tv as setup for watching tv? Ie I cannot pair with tv directly to play sound even via aux yeah?
    doozeruk's avatar
    Author
It has an optical/toslink input so as long as your TV or TV box has an optical out it would work. It wouldn't produce Dolby Atmos though as optical cables can't handle that feed (edited)
