The Meaco Low Energy Dehumidifier, part of new Platinum Range of Meaco dehumidifiers, is a proven way to dehumidify whilst using less energy. If you live in a three to five bedroom house and suffer from condensation, mould or damp then this model will deliver excellent results.

Using just 255 watts of power (costing 7p/hour based on 34p/kWh) and with the unique Meaco Control logic technology, you get a very cost effective and accurate solution to drying your home and dealing with damp. The Meaco system runs the dehumidifier to your chosen target relative humidity and then once the humidity has stabilised it puts the dehumidifier into sleep mode waking it up every 30 minutes to test the air until it has to start dehumidifying again.

I got the Arete last year and found Meaco customer service to be shocking. One of the children damaged the cable so I paid for it to be sent back to them for repairs and whilst there they decided that the internals were 'too dusty' and voided the warranty after 6 weeks of ownership.

Shocking. I'm all for buying British but I'd avoid these and choose a different company.

Brilliant dehumidifier managed to pick one up for £160 from Amazon a few months ago. Definitely makes a difference but is a little noisy. Heat added as in stock 🔥 👌

You got the same one for £160 off Amazon?

Awesome machine, but this one is expensive. Got one from Argos in March this year for £130.

It's like the Ninja airfryers that have shot up in price for no apparent reason!

My experience with these refrigerant dehumidifiers is that you really need a warm-ish room for them to extract moisture from the air and dry clothes etc. If the room isn't warm, you run this thing for hours and it doesn't do much. You need dessicant dehumidifiers for cold rooms. Just a word of warning if younare thinking this solves all your clothes drying and mould problems without turning your heating on.

Can i ask what room temperature you talking about? How much is warm-ish ?

Any recommendations for a low energy condenser dehumidifier with Alexa / google support?

Got one for £90 ish a couple of years ago and up to now it's been bob on.
The moisture it collects in just a few hours use is eye 👀 watering.
    Brilliant machine.
Just wish I had of bought two more for family members when it was on offer.

Remember when these were about £130 at Argos! Bought one and wondered when I’d use it but it’s been really handy with drying washing
    Yellowfin's avatar
Yep and then amazon price matched too. Bought one then.

Which? Best buy Dessicant dehumidifier £233, what’s happening with the market that these old noisy compressor models are so popular?

Had a better featured higher capacity ALDI one in the past that was £80 what’s going on..
    A57ton's avatar
I don’t understand your first sentence?

Compressor and desiccant models serve different environments, and generally speaking compressor models are significantly more efficient.

The only other type I am aware of are the ones that use the peltier method. This tech is usually found in the super cheap ones, and is generally only good for a single room.

I wouldn’t call 255watts low energy. My Ebac 4850 only pulls 140watts! (edited)
    jenmumof5's avatar
That's what I was thinking. My delonghi dem10 is 190w was only searching for a new machine incase my old one was ripping thru electric!
  10. Sandy0610's avatar
Does this need to be in a particular room? Or moved about? I note how it says a large house but how does that work? My lounge has stairs in them and it’s ‘open’ would this help?
    ThoughtCrime's avatar
We have used this model for years in a 4-bed Victorian semi which also has a converted basement (so 3 living levels and 2 open staircases from the ground floor hallway).

Most of the time we leave it in the ground floor hall to do its thing, although plenty seem to place with the laundry drying off.

It would be quite heavy for some to keep shifting between levels, I would think, though it's easy enough to roll on the same level. The other factor for location is the noise - it's not ridiculous or anything, but I wouldn't want it in a room I was sitting in/sleeping in, to be honest. They also benefit from being cleaned from dust pretty regularly (easily done) and if using its smart settings it will only be on when humidity rises about the threshold the user sets.

    Best wishes.

Madness that this is hot at £260. I have the 12l and it's very noisy compared to an older meaco I have, still a solid machine but nowhere near the build quality of the older one
    backyard's avatar
I don't know why the price jumps so much, the 12l I have manages to keep the humidity below 50% in a large 4 bed.
  12. azzap's avatar
I have the smaller version if this, the Meaco ABC, had it a year (purchased via JL), and previously it would fill its 10L capacity in my old damp cottage in a day, however it’s not suddenly almost over night it’s now taking 3 days to fill just half (5L), I appreciate it’s been cold and dry but surely it wouldn’t result in that much of a difference?
    lesley74's avatar
I would say it's the temperature, if you're not heating your house to a constant temperature. Not all dehumidifiers work in cold temperatures, and they're generally less effective if you go under 15C for example. You won't know unless you heat the house better or wait for warmer weather.

This is fab, we got one . I have my clothes drying on an airer and put this next to it, it dries so much quicker, minus the damp and condensation!
  14. MummyGalore's avatar
This was on a deal in March for £130. Dries  duvets quickly too.
  15. Mastermaster's avatar
The only thing I would say on these is they are big and noisy, a lot better than the ABC ones though (edited)

Get a yoga matt to put it on. Is very heavy and will leave an imprint on your carpet after a while and it also softens sound
  18. ZwoBOTT's avatar
Got mine over a year ago, 12l, developed an error (E1) a few months back, but was quickly dealt with by Meaco.
It's quick and efficient, I recommend also getting a cheap humidity sensor (this model has got one with digital display). Money well spent (bought on Amazon).
  19. jazzyb88's avatar
Why is everyone going mad for these? If you have a tumble dryer then do you still use this?
    richb3012's avatar
Because we've had a cold winter (so far) and nobody is putting their heating on, so ideal conditions for condensation/damp.
I didn't even know what a dehumidifier did 6 months ago but now I have 2! Excellent bits of kit.
  20. i_Amr's avatar
Got this a couple years ago it’s still going strong. Use it for drying clothes, works a charm. If you pair this with a low powered oil radiator in a small room you will be able to dry clothes in no time
  21. the_mercy_of_percy's avatar
I've got the 12L version of this. No idea if price is good but it's a cracking little machine if you're in the market for a meaco.
  22. Motheroftwo's avatar
Been using dehumidifiers for around 12 years, dries washing when needed but also makes house easier/cheaper to keep warm.
  23. Cristiano's avatar
Why are these double in price and still hot? I need a new one but it seems like the wrong time to be buying.
    volc's avatar
    Winter I guess

I got one from Amazon when it was £130. Cracking purchase. I highly recommend it.

What's everyone setting their humidity at in their house? Ours was 70-80%, started getting mildew, mould and damp patches in on cold spots everywhere, before putting one in the landing, now getting 45-50% humidity. (edited)

Just found this and ordered it straight away. Dehumidifiers are like rocking horse poo at the min so had to get one. Might be able to dry the house out a bit now
    Mornasimpson's avatar
Sorry I seriously can’t agree with your comment “Dehumidifiers are like rocking horse poo”. That level was past mid November when it was heightened to the level of Unicorn poo.

Bought one of these 2 years ago, they were quite a bit cheaper then. Its used daily. I pop it in front of the airer in the bathroom too and it dries the washing quickly and makes the room lovely and warm. (edited)
    Mastermaster's avatar
Makes the room warm, these give off very little heat if any in my experience (edited)

If you’re in the market for a dehumidifier at the moment grab this. I was after the Arête 20L ideally but can’t find them anywhere at the moment. Managed to get a 12L Arête this morning from JL, if it does the job will get the bigger version next year when stock and prices stabilise. I can’t believe how hard dehumidifiers are to get.

Bought one recently, similar price but direct from Meaco. Yes, difficult to get stock just now, unsure why. We had an older model Delonghi one, and it did still collect a reasonable amount of water but I thought I'd get a better one. Very impressed. Have had to turn it off actually as I can feel the house too dry if I keep it on! 3 bed house with 2 public rooms, over 2 levels. I've been putting it in the room where I hang up washing and it dries it very quickly - much quicker than my old one. Definitely recommend. I probably could have bought the 12l but better too big I think.
  39. radu.sebi's avatar
Have one, works very well, but with the current prices for electricity I just let the clothes dry for a bit longer rather than using the dehumidifier

For anyone like me who may have been waiting - 12L Arete model is back in stock direct with Meaco @ £179.99
