I’ve recently opted for an NVME Drive and Enclosure over something like this, can anyone offer another perspective I may be missing, as it was a bit cheaper and I figure when USB4 enclosures come down in price it will be a cheap and easy performance upgrade?

    Great deal OP. (edited)

You're right in that you'd be able to buy a new usb 4 enclosure and get the speed increase but most people won't bother/care to build their own. This will last a few years until usb 4 stuff comes in and becomes cost competitive, by which point the nvme drives you bought may not longer be worth putting in a new enclosure ... (ie if you can get faster 4/8tb drives for the same price as 2tb now, or they have better longevity or data retention etc.)

Remove from basket and try it again. Worked for me doing "Buy it now"

These are terrible drives that don't hold their speeds and perform worse than old USB 2 thumb drives.

Older design, but still a decent bit of storage.

Probably also worth noting that the shield itself can interfere with the USB C socket, whereby the cable can slip out easily. This was initially an issue with the first batch but even later batches seem to suffer the same fate. For that reason the non-shield version seems a better buy as long as you aren’t throwing the thing around. (edited)

I wouldn't personally put any important data on one of these. My 500GB T7 touch decided one day not to be recognised by any of my PC's. Had to reformat it and lost all my data. Sold it immediately after that as I'd lost faith in the drive. Maybe a one off, but I'd urge caution.

Microsoft and seagate should admit they're done and call a day on the Xbox expansion card scam. I've been using these T7 for a couple of years now as extra storage and you can move games back and forth so fast they would need to bring their expansion cards down to the same price before I gave them a second look just on principle.

Before I bought the 1TB expansion I was using a memory stick with a fast read speed. It didn't matter that the write speed was rubbish as I'd do all the copying overnight.

    Great price.
Think it's the cheapest it's ever been, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks OP - very tempting deal, as two of these would allow me to retire off a number of older portable HDDs.

They will pull delivery 🚚 times forward. Happens all the time. If they get decent amount of orders they will cut the lead times.

Can this be plugged into the PS5 to act as extra storage (to play PS5 games from - like the main storage)?
    Neostar's avatar
No you need internal storage for PS5, so something like a Samsung 980 Pro or Netac NV7000
