Virgin Media 1gps + O2 Unlimited (inc. data), Stream box, home phone, free install* £39.99 (18 month contract) £94 from month 19

This includes Virgin Media’s latest Hub 5, telephone service delivered over IP through a supplied RJ11 cable and a 4K/Dolby Stream box delivering TV over IP.

In store only. I could not find this package online, and after getting it myself 2 weeks ago, at an O2 store, I spoke to a local Virgin Media sales rep this week, who confirmed it is only available them or O2 stores/franchises.

After being on Three for 11 years, and their mobile broadband for 4 years, I wanted a change. I noticed an ad for O2 offering 5G unlimited data for £30, not much of a deal. I went into the O2 store, to get more information and was offered this deal, which was what I paying Three for both services. For me anyway, both Virgin Media and O2 services are much more reliable.

* Please note, after getting all of the documents via email, and there were a lot of them, I noticed they charged me a £75 activation fee for the Stream box! Of course I complained, and told them, that I was told there would be no charge when purchased my package, and they were happy to remove the charge.

For info, if you share a screenshot of this page on their online chat, you can order online
This will help you all with your worries about if the 14 days cooling off period stands if you order in store 49643960-uvnNQ.jpg

If anyone can help. If I take out this contract now. Will I see a price rise in April 2023 or it will be next year

I was told by Virgin CS the price wouldn't rise on their part (£14.99/month), but O2 customer service said it would on the sim contract (£25/month at around 17%).

I asked O2 CS what options I had, and they said change the sim contract for one with less data. I asked if it would change the virgin contract, and they said no they are separate. So I just upgraded to the £8/month one with 60gb data (posted on HUKD's today). (edited)

had the email saying £7 increase from May rang to give notice and offered £3.50 automated hung on to speak to a rep they reduced my current deal by £7.00 so the increase would cancel it out,I was all ready to have a candid discussion but the rep just canceled it all out. My contract is up in January 2024 so no price increase, in my area there losing customers now we are being offered deals from Vodaphone 500gb for £30 and other suppliers offering these speeds now we got lucky the full area has been upgraded by Openreach so lots of good offers now so Virgins monopoly on broadband speeds is no longer a deal breaker (edited)

Yep Virgin no longer have a stranglehold on Fibre thanks to City Fibre ... I was with Virgin since Blueyonder days 15 years + but have had to leave them as its just ludricous paying £70 just for broadband in this day and age ... £32 a month on the Vodafone deal for 900mb .. and if Voda increase their price at renewal I'll just move back to virgin and vice versa lol (edited)

Never had a price increase within contract with virgin for the last 10 years. Always make sure deal price is guaranteed for contract length.

Is this still like only 50Mbps upload lol?

If you can get CityFibre in your area, 1gig down, 1gig up
    sureshot's avatar
    sureshot Author
Tell me about it! 52Mbps upload on a 1Gbps download is weak!

I was getting about 60Mbps upload, 100Mbps download on my 4G on Three mobile broadband, for 4 years before it just suddenly dropped in speed.

For a just over a year I used a HUAWEI 5G router in 4G, when 5G became available, the 5G download speed was between 150-200Mbps, with the upload speed 1-7Mbps, which was unbearable! Even though unlocked, I couldn’t force it to use 4G only. I still had a 4G router lying around, and used that instead, but my speeds went down to around 30Mbps down, 9-18Mbps up.

So while the upload speed is low now, I’m sure in 18 months, more options will be available in my area. (edited)

I got confirmation from Virgin media CS that there will be no price rises on their contract for the 18 months (£14.99/month).

Need to check with o2 now for the £25/sim only.

    Hopefully useful info for people.

Anyone with advice on how long i will be waiting from city fibre installation in complete in my street until i can order it as on uswitch its just showing virgin for fibre still and its been a few weeks now
    bhaskarsa's avatar
    bhaskarsa
depends on the area, my street took over 2 years as when they started in june 2020, they didn't have permission from the council to install the cables in the building that is owned by the council

this shouldn't be a problem every where

Question: If you ask for the installation date to be mid April, will you avoid 2023 price rise on this deal?
    elmetodo's avatar
    elmetodo
The virgin contract will not be subject to the price rise, this was confirmed to me by a CS advisor and others have commented here they were told the same.

The o2 sim contract is subject to the rise, but this starts straight away. I was told by an O2 advisor there is no way to get out of this, but said I could change to a lower data plan to negate the rise, so I upgraded to the £8/month (60gb data).

Just saw this article which I thought was ironic, Boss of Liberty Global Slams Openreach’s “Desperate” FTTP Price Cuts

    Another one.
UK ISP Vfast Pledges NO Mid-Contract Broadband Prices Hikes, EVER

I can’t quite remember if it was Three or EE who first introduced these mid-contract RPI/CPI price hikes, just that they didn’t exist until around 10 years ago, my last mobile contract was in 2011 and which didn’t include yearly price increases.

In real terms technology depreciates over time, so there isn’t really any reason these companies should be increasing their prices. If it was necessary, they would have been done it from the beginning of the industry, which they they didn’t.

All contracts were 12 months until Three started, who then introduced 18 month contracts, and the rest followed suit. Three from what I remember, again started 24 month contracts, which as far as I’m concerned, are ridiculous!

We as consumers are getting fleeced, which is why this site and MSE, are so important! We can’t rely on regulators like Ofcom to do anything for us, in the short or long term, ever! (edited)

Best broadband deal ever. No price rise until 04/24 and they said it would be based off the package price that I paid for, not the out of contract price. Thanks OP!49678528-LpVpf.jpg

Very High speed broadband is usually unnecessary, unless you’re editing video working from home etc. Decent Customer service and not wasting your precious free time is very necessary. Never again, Virgin Media… (edited)

You need high speed internet to edit a video? Interesting take.

Almost everyone will have some form of gaming console or streaming service in their home - the faster the internet, the better the above will be.

I am currently on a rolling contract with Sky BB, is it good idea to wait till April and then get a new Broadband deal with someone? as price hike will be done by then, or go with this deal and then pay extra for RPI in april? any advice will appreciated.

Yes, my purchase was from an O2 retail store, and this afternoon I have also confirmed this is available at O2 franchises as well. I spoke to a Virgin Media sales rep, on Monday and today, who both confirmed they offer the same bundle.

What comes with the stream box
    sureshot's avatar
    sureshot Author
The Stream box, is their way of delivering IP TV, which in my case are just the Freeview equivalent channels in SD/HD. It supports streaming services, such as Amazon Video, iPlayer, YouTube, Netflix, Virgin’s own VoD, in 4K and Dolby, where applicable.

    "
However, this 2023 price increase won't affect you until your current price offer ends. The full price of your package will then increase by £7.00 a month, subject to the new pricing terms".... My promo prices expires in April 2024...so I'm confused

I think virgins Gig1 only has 54mbps upload speed, which is still plenty for normal users but city fibre can go all the way up to 900mbps in both directions (possibly provider dependent).
