I wonder how many who voted hot actually purchased this. I'm not saying this is a bad deal, and yes, don't spend more for higher speed if you don't need that speed. But Crucial x6 800Mb/s is/was cheaper buying directly from the UK. Also, the 2nd gen Crucial X8 and Samsung T7 are double the speed and you see them often at about £75. Apart from the rugged factor, which may suit photographers, those who carry this with them all the time, and brand enthusiasts, I can't see why people go for this when the alternatives IMO are better. And people should look at WD too, as it is the same drive in a different form factor. (edited)

I didn't vote hot for this

I think I prefer the Crucial X6 800Mb/s for £64 from Amazon UK. Unless you really need the rugged factor.

Can't sustain transfer speeds on large files. I shucked mine and there's no heatsink or thermal compound - the M2 drive is completely bare. Makes it lightweight but after about 2-300MB it throttles to a slower speed than a mechanical HDD.

Have you tried a Tb3 cable? I had the same issue on my T7 shield until I replaced the one that came in the box.

    I have one.

    It's good.

If firmware updates are available, update as so as you can. (edited)

    Is it good ?

    Should you update firmware ?

I have ordered the 2T one before. One thing I can say is they are super light when compare to other traditional Hard drives and very easy to carry.

Doesn't this then attract VAT when it lands in to the UK?

Nothing extra to pay on delivery. Amazon includes everything in the price when you buy from any of its non UK sites. You will see the breakup when paying. (edited)

You can play older games from it and store newer optimised ones on it, yes. Then transfer over to your internal HD when you want to play. It’s certainly quicker than downloading a game each time.

would this be good for loading up vids/films etc. to be used on a newer USB-c compatible ipad?
    iSam's avatar
    Will work well for that.

Note: A USB drive must have only a single data partition, and it must be formatted as FAT, FAT32, exFAT (FAT64), or APFS. To change the formatting of a USB drive, use a Mac or PC. (edited)

From a back up perspective, so not hugely concerned about read/write speeds. Is this better than an SD card?
    sheffield788's avatar
Yes. But if you're not bothered with the speed, just buy a normal portable hard drive, don't pay extra for SSD.

I remember getting this for £25 when the price glitched that was 2TB

These aren't the fastest at all. I sold my 2tb ones as they were sluggish compared to the higher end ssds.
    drharish36's avatar
Which higher end SSD do you recommend?

    ibz100's avatar
